I have the disk super scattergories and I want to load on windowsxp. It doesnt do anything

Microsoft Windows 98 was an operating system used on a majority of personal computers from 1998 to 2000. Because of this, there are a variety of games available to play on Windows 98, but are incompatible with later versions of Windows. If you have Windows XP or higher, you have access to a "Compatibility Mode" that allows your computer to play those games. Activating compatibility mode is a simple procedure.

Right-click the file that you usually click on when you are trying to start a game.

Select the "Properties" option in the drop-down menu.

Select the "Compatibility" tab, then check the "Windows 98" box.

Select the proper video mode for your game under "Display Settings."

Select the "Apply" button to save your settings, and select "OK."

Double-click on your game's file to begin playing the game.

I have several older pieces of software that I would like to use. However I need to dumb down my laptop from window XP to windows 98 Is there a cheap/free way to this?

most windows 98 software can be ran in XP using "compatibility mode", but you might have to adjust other compatibility settings to get it to work. i have never had problems running windows 98 software in xp, or even vista, even without compatibility mode, so your actual hardware may be to blame.

to access compatibility mode, right click on the program's .exe file or desktop shortcut and choose "properties" and then select the "compatibility" tab. there you will find options to run in windows 98 mode, and several video options. you may have to try several different video configurations along with windows 98 mode before you find the one that works.

if the compatibility options dont fix it, then the processor is probably too fast for the program, and you will have to download software (if available for your motherboard/model) to underclock, or slow down, your processor. to find the right software to do this will take quite a bit of research, and may be beyond your skill level.

there is also a free program called microsoft virtual pc that can run other versions of windows in a "virtual computer" inside your windows xp desktop. you can download virtual pc from the microsoft website, and i believe that it comes with, or has available for free, a windows 98 virtual os. if it does not make the windows 98 virtual software available for free, then you will, unfortunately, have to purchase a windows 98 cd on ebay.

to actually wipe xp and replace it with windows 98 may not be feasible because the windows drivers might not be available for your computer, and the proper drivers are necessary to access all of your hardware. there is no support for windows 98 anymore, so the drivers are quite hard to find, if they were even ever made.

I have Spiritual Expressions for Windows 98 but my laptop has Windows Vista. How can I make the program work on Vista?

You may be able to get it to work by installing it in compatability mode. Right click on the install file and choose windows 98 on the compatability tab.
You could also use a virtual machine, you could load a copy of windows 98 and then use your program in the VM.
There are free Virtual machine programs, but you would need a valid copy of win 98

When i start Axis and Allies the screen flashes for about 15 seconds and then an error screen comes up that says that "the game tried to turn the resolution to 1024/768 but couldn't so it changed it back...

When I try to play Axis and Allies cd-rom '98 it's like the screen is too small for the game because there is no buttons or anything that allows me to end my turn. My monitor is pretty big too.

Age of Sail Privaterr's Bounty will not play

You need to run it under windows 98 compatibility mode:

To do this locate the file "privateer.exe". By default, this file is located in Program Files/Global Star/Privateers Bounty - Age of Sail 2.

- Right click on the privateer.exe and select Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check the Compatibility Mode box by clicking in it.
- Use the drop down menu to select Windows 98/ME.
- Click Apply, and then click OK to close the window.

Hope this helps.

Graham.

Microsoft office

Vista is the latest, so it can handle the newest things, to the things that were compatible with Windows XP. So, it can run almost anything.

It is natural that Microsoft is going to make Vista fully compatible with its old software. You can even install the crappy old OfficeXP or Office '98

I just bought a 64 bit operating system Vista Home Premium Computer and it won't load a 16 bit software application. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to my computer to change it from a 64 bit...

You can try running the 16 bit app in compatibility mode. Right click on the app's exe, click on properties, and select compatibility, then tick the box labeled "run in compatibility mode", then select Windows 98 from the now available drop down box.
