Cause! One of the most common reasons why a steering wheel won't lock right is that the detent is broken or worn down. If you don't know what the word detent means, then don't worry. The detent is basically "the catch" part that makes sure that your steering wheel locks into place.

Some chrysler vehicle have a button in front of the ignition on the steering column that has to be pushed to remove the key other wise replced the ignition cylinder itself
Before turning the key, try moving the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key. Sometimes on power steering equipped vehicles when they are turned off and the wheel isn't straight, it will put excess pressure on the ignition lock cylinder. Moving the steering wheel may ferr it up.
Try moving the Steering Wheel, put a little muscle into it. Some vehicles have a steering column lock that prevents the key from being turned if in the locked position
Try moving the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key - sometimes the steering lock will stick if there is pressure from the wheel. If this doesn't do it, try spraying or pouring some dry graphite into the lock cylinder ( the hole for the key) slide the key in and out of the lock quickly a few times to spread the graphite, then move the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key. Hope this does it for you!
Try turning the wheel as to release pressure and then turn the key, if that don't work the ignition lock tumble's pins are bad, a mobile locksmith can rekey your ignition lock.
Hi there
Could be simple.
Try this. the steering wheel should turn ever so slightly to one direction if so turn the steering wheel that way and then try the key, start gently and build up on the wiggle force.
It should just be the steering lock working/not working
Some cars will lock the steering wheel when the ignition is turned to the lock position. To try and start the car, grab the steering wheel and try to move the steering wheel back and forth while turning the ignition key at the same time. Be aware that the steering wheel could require a pretty good yank before the ignition unlocks.
The ignition key and lock cylinder operate a gear and lever type of mechanism within the steering column. If the gear jumps out by one tooth, or has been assembled incorrectly, it will cause the steering wheel to remain locked and the push rod that activates the ignition switch (located near the bottom of the column) will not function correctly. This can be very tricky to solve, and should be serviced by an experienced technician.
