1999 Toyota Camry V6 automatic. The check engine is on?
Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Misc to model category.
A scan tool will turn off codes alerts, but depending on the severity, the CEL will come straight back on, or it might come on a week later when set parameters aren't met. I had the CEL on on my Lexus. The dealership told me it needed a new thermostat and the cleared the code. About 2 weeks later it came back on. I asked my tire guy and he also said it was the thermostat. I told him that the car wasn't overheating and it seemed fine. He read out the parameters for the code and it was something like 'Coolant temperature not attained 110'F within 4 minutes and 30 seconds'. Sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't. The next time I had my tires swapped over, winter to summer set, he changed the thermostat and it never came back. I have similar with an o2 sensor and with a P4020 Catalytic converter code.
You can get a very basic scan tool for $35, you can also get Dongles that plug into the OBD port and transmit information to your smartphone. I have this one

If you have an Autozone shop near you, they will read the code for free and tell you what it is. Write it down and come back. My Catalytic converter issue was fix by using Cat cleaner in the fuel.
Garages will also read and clear the code for free in the hope of getting the work. If they say they charge a diagnostic fee, got somewhere else. It literally takes 2 minutes.
Incidentally a pro grade scan tool will cost you $3.5k to $5k! Quality wins, but they take a lot of learning.
1999 Toyota Camry: Transmission issue: When it
after checking fluid level,as per the book, the only reason to be jerky is a harsh driving style(small engine/big car).try stopping, then without using the gas let the car accelerate to top gear, then try 1/2 throttle, again from stop,to see the difference between gear changes......you will see what i mean ..
Do I spray starter fluid under my air filter on a 99 toyota camry le
If you need to use starter fluid you need to get the engine checked by a good mechanic. When was it last given a full service?
You'll need to remove the air filter and spray it directly into the air intake. Starter fluid is nasty stuff! If you get it on the air filter and you get a flame blowback from the air intake it'll burst into flames like a flare!
Starter fluid is only meant to be used once or twice like in an emergency or starting a petrol engine after a very long time in storage.
How do you reset the alarm on a 1999 toyota camry if i dont have the remote locking mechanisim
Operation of the theft deterrent system is discussed in the 1999 Toyota Camry Owner's Manual beginningh on page 21. Unlocking the door with the key should disarm the alarm system. If it does not disarm when using the key, there are only two possibilities: > You have an aftermarket alarm system installed in addition to the system tht was provided by the manufacturer and they are interfering with each other.> OR> Your vehicle needs service to correct the malfunction. You might try unlocking the car from the passenger side or use the key to open the trunk first to see if this works. If it does, the switch inside the driver door is probably malfunctioning.
1999 Toyota Camry . Low beams work, but no high beam.
I would guess the switch on the steering column
is worn out, thus no high beam feature
That switch & that part of the lighting system has to be tested

How do you replace oil pump shaft seal and o-ring
Hello, the oil pump can be removed by removing all the 10mm size bolts on the pump housing, it is not necessary to remove the oil pan or anything else. The oil pump pulley can be removed by taking off the 12mm nut then pull the pulley off and the seal can be replaced.
