The problem cannot be solved. You need to give more information.
Firstly, do you have a 64bit PC? If so then is the Vista disc you have, an upgrade disc or an OEM straight install disc which requires no OS on your PC to install Vista 64? If it is an upgrade disc, then you need a qualifying OS, on your PC to upgrade it to Vista, for eg. WinXP, Win 2000, etc. If it is an OEM Disc then maybe the PC cannot find the disc to boot from when you switch on your PC. Get into the PC's System Bios and set the boot order so that the CD/DVD disc drive is scanned first rather than the Hard Disk drive of your PC at switch on. Then save the settings and exit the system Bios. To get into the system Bios you need to either press the 'Del' key or the 'F2' key when the PC is switched on.

Can i convert a 32 bit to a 64 bit

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7. For more information, go to Upgrading to Windows 7: frequently asked questions on the Windows website.
If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7‍.
gl_ico.png Notes
  • To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files.
  • If you start your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files, but your computer isn't capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll see a Windows Boot Manager error. You'll need to use a 32-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files instead.
  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from a 64-bit version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista but you plan to install a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can move your files to an external location manually or use Backup and Restore in Windows Vista. For more information, go to Back up your files and

Cannot install it on Computer which is Windows Vista 64-bit . I am trying to instal the Canon Mp730 on my laptop which is running Vista 64-bit.

I think you answered your own question here ... if it will not work on 64 bit ... well ... you cant install it on 64 bit.

Might you have a second computer in the house which you could add to a network - attach your printer to that qualified computer and then have it as a network share?

have you checked at Canon for a 64 bit driver?????

Canoscan does not work on vista 64-bit

I'm not sure if this will work on the lide 20. I have an lide 35, and there are no 64 bit drivers for it. I downloaded and installed the drivers for the lide 60, told the computer to manually find the lide 60 drivers for my scanner, and installed the canoscan toolbox for vista 64 bit. Works like a champ.

O s

The four things that make 64-bit Vista inadvisable for ordinary users are:
1: No compatibility with old 16-bit Windows apps. This means ancient Windows 3.x software, which most people don't run any more, but 16-bit code can still pop up in the darndest places. Like, for instance, in the installer programs for other apps.
2: No automatic registry and file redirection, which is what 32-bit Vista uses to allow existing software to work with Vista's better user account security, even if the software wants to do admin-rights stuff to the registry and Program Files directory. Many apps still break in 32-bit Vista, but many more break in the 64-bit version.
3: No compatibility with existing 32-bit drivers. Everything on your computer will need a new driver. 64-bit WinXP is the same, and there aren't many 64-bit computers on which Vista won't at least install, but 64-bit Windows also has...
4: No support for unsigned drivers.
