Start in a corner and you should be able to find the point lifts easier than the edges.

My TOM TOM G920 battery doesnt hold charge for more than 5 minutes i think it needs a new battery I want to know how to replace the battery

QUick and dirty this is how it should go. Might be a little different so use some caution.
1- Remove the 4 screws from the outer corners of the gps unit. These are on the back in the corners.

2- Try sticking a small (JEWELERS/PRECISION) screw driver between the two halves of the case. There are small snap locks around the case, these are what you are trying to get to open up.

3- When you get the two halves seperated do not pull them apart. Look carefully inside you might see wires running to tha back half of the case, check on these and see where they go and what they are connected to. If you are lucky they are just speakers and they will have a quick connect on them.

4- Once you have the case seperated, the battery should be right there, remove the battery and install the new one. NOTE-- IMPORTANT sometimes you cannot get the right battery but you can get the same one but with a different end on it. IF YOU are CAREFULL you may be able to get the end off the original battery and put it on the new one.

Hope this helps you out and good luck.

Won't charge even though Green light is on and connects to computer. Just put a new battery in.

Yes, possibly a cracked pc board if the unit was dropped. But check to make sure that the charging unit's connector is clean as well as the unit to be charged. I had a problem with my wireless phone and a PDA not charging because of dirty contacts. I got to the contacts using a long Q-tip moisten with Isopropyl alcohol and scrubbed them clean. I now do it about twice a year. No problems since then.

Can not open it to change battery tomtom 1 3rd edition help pleast john

I take no responsibility if you damage your tt in this procedure.
To open the tt one third edition and change the battery you will need a # 8 and a # 6 torx bit. Remove the 4 # 8 torx screws on the back of your tt. After removing the screws carefully insert a guitar pic between the two halves starting at the top and continue around to the sides. Be careful so you don't damage the case. After you have gotten the three sides loose (top, right side, and left side gently pull the two halves apart from the top (be very careful at this point so you don't dislodge the USB port). Do NOT take it completely apart at this point because you have to remove the battery and speaker connections (they just pull out with a little wiggling motion). After you have taken the case apart and disconnected the battery and speaker cables you will need a # 6 torx to remove the board (don't skip this step because the battery is held in with two sided tape and you have to pry the battery out). Now that the board has been removed take a small screwdriver and pry up on the battery. Now all you have to do is reassemble your tt in the reverse order. Just remember the smaller screws are for the board

Battery will not hold charge on tomtom 300

TomTom will not service tomtoms out of the warranty period. I tried them and they dont . They say / argue that there are many companies offering service . I would suggest that the battery is user replaceable with a little bit of DIY knowledge. You need the correct screwdrivers whicth are Torx type. You can buy them cheaply in sets from size T5 up to T20. First remove screen surround by pushing the windscreen mount clip underneath the tomtom , towards the screen. This will push the surrounf out enough for you to grab the bottom of it and pull it off. Next unscrew the 4 torx screws located in 4 holes around the screen. Next , extract the tomtom 'innards' by easing the assembley out of the front of the case. Next , unscrew the 2 torx screws that hold the speaker in place. Next , remove the 2 smaller torx screws UNDER the speaker. This will then allow removal of the plastic clamp that holds the cylinder shaped battery in place.NEXT , unplug the battery ( theres 3 wires go to a little plug on the circuit board ) and withdraw it through the gap left by the speaker. Fit NEW BATTERY ( available off ebay ) and reassemble in reverse order. Of course all this should be done very carefully. DO NOT RUSH. Work on a clear bench and put something soft on the bench to protect the tomtom. DO NOT force anything , it should all come apart easily. If you are unsure , inexperienced at messing with fiddly things or just plain nervous then get someone else to do it.

Disassemble tomtom xl

Hello,
once you have taken the 4 screws apart, the back cover is attached to the front one with plastic latchs. To open them, the best is to use one nail or a thin piece of plastic. Do not use an screwdriver or any other metallic tool or the covers will be marked. Begin with one of the sides, then the other, then the top (or the botton, I don't remember). You should not apply a strong force, and be very careful when it is almost done, as the cables connecting the battery and speaker are very short and could e damaged if the case opens suddenly.
Be gente and you'll be done.

Hope this helps.

Tomtom

You would have to seriously abuse your tomtom for the battery to have failed. More likely something else is wrong . Anyway , ere goes : Take 4 screws out of back of tomtom ( these are star screws so you will need a special tool but sometimes an allen key will fit. ) At the top / side of the tomtom where you can see the join of plastic between back and front. Pull apart with your fingers . Its tricky but keep trying and eventually it will come apart a little. From that you can release it from the bottom connectors by pushing the back downwards a little against the base of the front. A little waddle and it will part. The batter is located in the back panel and is held in place with a sticky pad. The battery wires terminate in a small plug connected to the main board. The Battery should be marked " Edinburgh " and should be rated at 3.7 volts 1100mAh. Once again , its very unlikely there is any fault with the battery , more likely to be the charger or charging circuit inside the tomtom.

When i plug into car ok but when to mains nothing

First , let me say that the batteries do not fail very often. Answers here to your 3 questions in order ......
1. Your home mains charger is faulty. 2/ Your car charger is probably OK. 3/ Clip out the screen surround. Remove the 4 special STAR screws that are at the corners of the screen. Remove the main circuit board by taking out 4 smaller star screws and let it hang loose but still connected by its cables. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE BOARD CABLES. Remove the speaker . Under the speaker are 2 more screws holding a plastic bracket that clamps the battery. Remove these 2 screws and the battery clip comes off. Unplug the battery cable from the now loose main board and the battery can be removed. Fit new battery and reassemble in reverse order. NOTE , some tomtom 300's have a protective copper or foil sheild covering the main board. The screws holding the board cannot be seen until the foil is removed. Removing this foil and not repalcing it will render your tomtom more prone to interference although the tomtom will still work without it.
