SOURCE: pilot light on boiler

The plumbers repair should be guaranteed, give him a call back.
It sounds to me that the pilot flame needs to be adjusted or the thermocouple is not aligned properly or there is a draft that is blowing out the pilot.
Good luck...

I would suggest that you check all wiring connections to gas valve, ignitor induced drarft motor if so equipped, flame sensor and thermostat . It sounds to me like you probably need a new ignitor. As for the leak see if you can isolate where it is coming from. You may have to remove some of the casing to find it. It may just be a loose fitting that can be removed taped with teflon tape or coated with pipe thread compound and reinstalled. It is nearly impossible to tell how hard the repair will be until you know the source. Hope this helps. Thanks

Sime boiler pilot light

Sounds like an old boiler. It is not on timer and has to be lit manually. Push in the gas button and hold and push the sprung ingnition button to greate spark. Continue to hold in gas button 1-2 mins and release. The pilot light should then stay on. The flame will have heated the sensor in the combustion chamber and the boiler thinks that there is a flame and will allow the main gas jets to light when demanded . If the flame does not stay on clean the sensor prongs with emery cloth but do wait until they are cooled. You have open up the combustion chamber for access
The 1-2 mins above varies

Water heater pilot light

it also sounds as though the pilot injector could be blocked so when the boiler comes on it extinguishes the pilot & then when the burner goes off boiler shuts down, or also the pilot rate maynot be set right, so when the main burner kicks in it robs the pilot of the gas it requires.
It could be that, or there is lack of ventilation for the boiler, so you get flame lift off when the boiler fires?
