You can update silverlight for free with Microsoft. Your computer needs the program to stream the programs.
It has nothing to do with Netflix, although the program is needed on your computer, to let Netflix (or any other movie program) work correct.

To watch a movie on my desktop using Netflix, do I have to download Silverlight?

Netflix has started using HTML 5 protocols for their video, but it is not available on all platforms yet. You can check out the site below to see if your OS/Browser setup works with HTML5. If not then you will need to install silverlight.

We are ttying to "stream" and cannot connect to netflix

Hello.
To stream on Netflix your Netflix account has to be set up to stream.
For Netlix user's your account would be either streaming OR playing DVDs, not both.
If your Netflix is set up to stream, you may need to download Microsoft Silverlight which is free and availble from Microsoft.
Be sure to download the latest version of Silverlight.

You will also need to open Netflix.com and create an account on your computer.

Close netflix and reopen after creating account then login.
Then check your account for streaming or DVD playing.

Depending on why kind of TV you have to watch a movie you will need to connect to the TV with an HDMI cable.

If you have a Netflix compatible Mac, the Silverlight plug-in will automatically install when you try to watch your first movie. It is possible that you have a PowerPC (PPC) Mac which in turn is too old for online video streaming. PowerPC Mac's will have great difficulty or the outright inability to use streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc. Check out the link I provide, and go to the "System Requirements" tab to see if your Mac meets the minimum. There is no "hack" or any other method that will make it work on a PowerPC Mac, it's just time for a newer computer. Get Silverlight Microsoft Silverlight

Hi allisalevall,

If you cant watch a DVD movie you need to install a codec pack on your computer so that you can view the movie on your system. Click here to download. Enjoy watching.

How can we watch netflix on our d link media center extender. when we have netflix movie playing on pc, it won't play on d link downstairs. the save link button shows up but just disappears when clicked on...

To the best of my knowledge Netflix will only work on the actual computer that it runs on and not an extender. The reason is that netflix uses internet streaming and Silverlight neither of which an extender can use.
