Hi to start with I had FLASHING 4 LED FAULT CODE and TV went into standby mode. After reading blogs I ended up changing the PSU and the AV BOARD after which the screen lit up but had a black line which turned out to be a block coil on the inverter board,I have replaced the inverter board and have sound from all the channels and DVD input/HDMI and the screen is backlit but I have no picture or menu display. Is it now worth investing in a T CON BOARD or shall I just get shot of it before it becomes a money pit!
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Hi, If all else fails, try do a hard reset. You can verify from your manual, but in some units, this is merely unplugging the unit from mains for a couple of hours. Try again, if it still shows error codes (blinking lights) you probably have to seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.

it sounds like your back light might be going out. You might be able to fix this by installing a new backlight inverter board.
