is it an electric or gas or oil fired. Er3 means it is not getting up to temperature within the required time. Electrical - element bad. for oil or gas, no ignition or fuel supply.
Crossover, low hot water flow, low water pressure, sediment in water lines or heater, heat exchanger needs to be de-limed, water filter needs to be cleaned, water heater temperature set too high, incoming water temperature too high or too low depending on model, MUD or PUD districts with pressure spikes, dirty faucet aerators, loose wires, bad sensor, faulty PD-board, bad venting, dirty burner and combustion parts, etc.
Verify that all manual gas shut off valves are open.
Verify gas type (See Fig. 2 in installation manual) corresponds with the type of gas supplied to the heater.
Reset error code and open a water tap to cycle the heater in an effort to purge air from gas line (especially on new installations). Cycling hot water tap on and off multiple times may be necessary. If heater still faults with EA error code, have a licensed gas technician properly purge air out of the gas line leading to the water heater.
Verify the three yellow wire connections to the set of electrodes (underside of the burner assembly) are secure.
Verify gas pressure meets specifications outlined in chapter 3.8. See Bulletin TWH-G2-03.
Verify venting meets specifications outlined in chapter 3.6 of the installation manual. Improper venting may cause premature failure of the flame sensor rod.
Observe inside the viewing window of the heat exchanger when a hot water tap is opened. Sparking should be followed by a steady blue flame. If not, Call Bosch Water Heating with observations. Readings from above gas pressure test will be req
There are many reasons a tankless heater will stop heating water. The first thing I would look for is a flashing red light on the burner indicator. The flash break down goes as follows
continuous blinking - typically means ignition failure or the unit is overheating; look for visible water inside the unit, have your gas pressure checked, or check the flame rod/igniter for buildup of debris
three blinks - typically indicates 16 error code; typically resolved by performing a descale
4 or 5 blinks - exotic error codes; for these you should definitely contact Noritz tech support
If there is no flashing light, first check your filter for debris. If the filter is clean, your flow sensor is probably stuck. Again I'd recommend contacting Noritz tech support to help you clean the flow sensor.
flame sensor error remove and clean with steel wool or replace but becareful because most of them have the ignitor and flame sensor on one bracket and the ignitor is fragile and most important don't touch it the oils from your skin will cause it to burn out
II would think that the unit is going out on hil imit because there is not enough psi on the water coming in.Is this unit on well water or city?If it on well water you have run some cleaner in it every six months.L on the side of the heat or inside and there a toll free number to call talk to a tech.
