ok typo day, 3RD (D is below E) got it.
now and answer and told here 10000 times and googled 1million times. or more
check all fuses
then scan the PCm (TCM) for DTC errors then we look them up in the real service manual and amazing it tells you what to do next
as in LOTS more tests with meters and gauges.
stuck in 3rd gear means what.?

1. shift lever stuck (as in will no move.
2. in drive, car starts off in 3rd gear, now that be rare. but possible.
3. in reverse cars goes forward but in 3rd gear.
4. or coasting the transmission never goes below 3rd gear called engine transmission natural braking actions and auto downshift features. happens foot off gas pedal.
5. or means overdrive or TCC lockup failing?

A/t boxes do lots of things, even wrong, but not told clearly here.

Internal transmission breakage has stuck the thing in 3rd gear. Stalls when putting in other gears because transmission is then being put into 2 gears at once. Better look into getting another transmission of having the current unit overhauled and repaired.

Are you saying you can not move shifter while driving or it will not shift out of 3rd gear? If just the fact it will not from 3rd gear sounds like it could be in safe mode. Is check engine light on?

Low transmission fluid will cause this.

In some models the engineers default the tranny to be stuck in the 3rd gear if something is wrong because 3rd gear is considered an "all-purpose" gear. It will allow your car to begin to move from a dead stop, and will also allow it to maintain a highway speed without ruining your tranny or engine.

In my own personal experience, I have had a car that was stuck in 3rd gear. The problem turned out to be the electrical harnesses leading from the TCU to the tranny itself. The harness would pull itself out.

I would double, triple, and quadruple check all the electrical connections dealing with the transmission. It may be as simple as a wire that got pulled out of the harness and could be shorted out; which can cause your problem.

In any case, make sure you protect your tranny ID. Its a sweet body your driving. You don't want to be out there exposed on the superhighway going only in 3rd gear, with no other choices.

THERE ARE SOME CABLES THAT SHIFT YOUR TRANS CHECK TO SEE IF ONE OF THEM ARE BROKE.IF THEY ARE MOVEING FREELY IT IN THE TRANS

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck
