Could be the plug or distributor. You can buy a reasonably priced tester that goes between the plug wire and plug and lights if there is spark or just put a bolt or nail in the wire and try to see if there is a spark when you ground the nail (but don't touch the plug wire since you an get a nasty jolt). If you have no spark it could be just a bad plug wire.

I have a Chevy 2500 pick up truck. My son thought he'd replace the spark plugs. He removed the distributor cap, didn't understand it and now the truck won't start. He did not replace any spark...

firing order for 5.7 v8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 mostly all of the chevy v8s are the same firing order. the rotor button in distributer turns clockwise, the cylinder numbers are 1-3-5-7 on drivers side, 2-4-6-8 is on passengers side. To get started get your distrutor cap[new one] look on the top you will see a #1that's where you begin you must know if if rotates clockwise or counter clockwise start in that direction then follow the firing order and cylinder line up. good-day!! if cap is not marked, just pull out #1 plug, put a straw or similar in plug hole on top of piston. turn engine over by crank in front of vehicle with a wrench, when the piston comes to the very top just before it starts going down. this is tdc. and rotor button should be pointing to #1 wire on dist, cap. follow from there. good-day !!

Try to narrow down the problem by checking a few things when it's not starting. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

2001 Mazda Milleniacheck engine light came on. .car is running rough and hesitates while moving. codes says misfire on cylinder 6. Had tune up. put in new distrutor cap. Still drives really bad. . ....

check all spark plug wires and replace. age and wear and tear will cause them to crack and therefore create the misfire in your cylinder causing the engine to run rough

2002 astro van tuns over but won't start. put new plugs and distrutor, have power to windows and radio

Is there any spark?

To check:

Pull a spark plug wire out, put it on one of the old spark plugs, make sure the spark plug is touching metal (needs to be grounded) and have someone turn the engine over, to see if there is a spark.

If there is no spark, the most likely problem is the ignition control module.

Other things to check:

cap/rotor
coil

Hope this helps

It will not start and has no spark. I pulled the plug and let it hang and had no spark. I did the same thing with a spark plug and still no change. Can anyone help me

First of all- your methods of testing spark are ... unsatisfactory.
You need a spark tester and a good unit ground to determine the condition of the module.
For preliminary tests the spark plug needs to be grounded. Insert the plug into the spark plug boot and make sure there is a good connection and make sure the plug is grounded by touching the threaded part of the spark plug to a solid engine component. Usually the cooling fins of the cylinder or head. Once the plug is grounded proplerly then pull the rope and check for fire.
Once you are satisfied that there is no spark then unplug the ground wire from the module and check for spark again. If you have spark then its a switch or bad wire problem. If still no spark then replace the module.

1988 Isuzu 4x4 pickuno spark coming out of ignition coil going to

Take it down to most any parts store, they can test if if they advertise module testing. Check the coil and see if there is between any of the contacts. They can probably test the coil too. If you have a repair manual for the truck it can tell you what contacts on the coil should have a connection and how much resistance there should be between them.

My distributor is fine but i lost spark on my 1994 chevy k1500 with a 4.3l v6 vortec engine cannot figure it out checked everything i could think of what could be the problem?

change the ignition module located under the rotor in the distributor cap it has 2 small 8mm bolts and plugs into the distrutor wiring in the cap ( you,ll see) it is flat usually with 2 wires clipped into each end ..this will be the problem..I have changed many.
