Does American standard still use the AC/DC motor in their variable speed air handler that was causing problems requiring early replacement

Yes, all manufactures are using the dreaded X13 ECM motor. If you can get a tech to do so replace it with a single speed motor and add a relay

Blower wont work inside attic

2006 and later models used an X13 non capacitor motor. A high percentage of them have failed. Warranty is 5 years on parts, you pay for service.. A new one cost over $500 plus installation. If your are lucky It could be the condensate line is clogged. The drain pan fills and a float switch turns the unit off to prevent water damage from overflow.

My blower fan doesn't come on.

2006 and later models have a X 13 blower motor. several million have failed. There is a 5 year parts warranty but you must pay for service to replace it. After the warranty expires a new one costs around $550.00 plus installation cost. Look on the end of the motor if it's an X13 there is no capacitor. If it's not an X13 the capacitor is the most likely problem.

Ac unit buzzes and fan motor does not run when system turned on.

Your blower motor sounds like it is fried. I hope you have done something by now, 15 Oct 2014. But the best thing to do if someone is reading this and you get this symptom is to turn off the blower. If it is still under warranty, the new blower motor should not cost you anything except the labor and service charge. Different manufactures sometimes charge a small warranty charge to handle paperwork and shipping. If this recently happens to you, the most common cause is a voltage spike, like lightning strike, and it has blown the capacitor. If you do not have a capacitor on your blower motor, for example an x13 or an ECM type motor, then you will need to replace the control module and typically costs about $200. If your local dealer does stock the control module then the cost of most of these motors are around $500. Your best bet is to call a reputable repairman and get them to change it out. There is high voltage capacitors inside and can give you a good jolt if you happen to come in contact with the circuitry before the capacitor discharges.
Hope this helps.

Payne air handler with possible GE X13 Failure

Check your dip switch settings on tonnage and your CFM per ton settings. Also make sure they wired the the low voltage for cooling to Y and not YLO if its a single stage compressor system.

The fan won't start on my Rheem High Eficciency unit, I replaced the thermostat and still won't start, what do I do next?

Likely a bad motor. If you have a meter and electricity confidence you need to verify that you have high and low voltage AT the motor. If both voltages present and still no motor you know it's bad. If no low voltage, possibly have a bad control board.

Model TWEO36C140A1 blower will come on if I throw the breaker switch...but thermostat doesn't seem to be in sync. Fan will run in "on" position and once blower is running, in auto. ...

If no relay I'm assuming this is an x13 motor. Try swapping speed taps 4 and 5. It's possible the winding is over heating. Tough one to diagnose without being there. With power off take pic of tstat wiring and remove all wires. Be sure to spread wires apart to prevent blowing fuse. Turn power back on. Red and white together should bring on heat and fan. Red green and yellow should bring on fan and compressor. Try this several times each way making sure the blower comes to a complete stop every time. If everything seems to work by bypassing tstat you likely have a bad stat. Provided swapping your speed taps was unsuccessful. Good Luck!!
