Can I watch tv with the timer on the dvd recorder turned on?

I have an old Sharp tv and a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-EZ37V which I connected and get all the digital channels without any problem. When I set the timer to record a tv program, I am unable to watch the tv. I tried checking the manual to see whether I can watch tv with the timer on without success. Also, can I watch tv on one station, while recording another at the same time? You help will be greatly appreciated.

Hook up the cable wire that comes directly from the wall to the dvd recorder's in connection, then get a 3 ft cable cord and connect from the out of the dvd recorder to the in on the tv. You should be able to set the dvd recorder channel and timer and leave it off. you then should be able to have your tv on and watch any station but to watch the tv with dvd recorder on, your tv should be set to either channel 3 or 4 depending on the switch on back of dvd recorder. I hope this solves your problem. Foxpaw13

I have the DVD/VHS recorder/player Panasonic Model DMR-E75V, I have connected the 2 scart cables to the digital decoder and TV set but I cannot record even if I can play the VHSs and DVDs normally. It's a...

First of all you have to connect only one SCART cable ( one end to TV and the other to DMR ).When you are watching a program on TV select the DMR source ( input selector ) to SCART. Just press the record button with a blank DVD inside and it will record. Some Digital broadcast might have copy protect content which will prevent the recording from happening.

Remote

When I have the same issue with my dmr-ez37v I recover by unplugging the unit for about 15 seconds, then plugging it back in. It seems the unit get "hung" about once a month and requires a hard power reset.

Watch while recording

Make sure the DVD has RF lead and Scart lead connected in and also BOTH connected out to the TV. When you record from TV use channel numbers, when you record from cable use AV channel, (on DVD). When watching TV use TV channels 1 to 5, when watching Cable use AV channel, (on TV).

Fuzzy Picture

Are you using the component (RGB) outputs, and a Sony TV? I believe that there is something in the output of at least some Panny DVD recorders (over the RGB component path), which Sony TVs don't process properly.
