SOURCE: my needle is grinding on my sewing machine

replace the needle first. if does not fix it, then remove and replace your bobbin and bobbin case. After that I would take it for repair.

Memory Craft 3000 is making a grinding sound, needle staying in down position and it won't sew. What can I do?

Grinding noise is not good and probably the reason why the machine isn't working. I guess there has been a mechanical breakage somewhere in the internals.

It is probably a task for a sewing machine mechanic or service agent. I suggest you read the literature supplied with your machine, contact the retailer where you bought it and check your local directory for sewing machine service and repairs gathering information and costs before making a decision...

Why does it make a knocking noise as it sews?

the needle position is up tight in the holder and no where else
the cut away bit of the needle faces the bobbin case hook and the groove in the needle faces the end of the machine and gives clearance for the thread to pass through the material
from your description and what you did, the needle /hook timing needs adjusting as it is out
turn the machine over by hand as in sewing and watch the position of the eye of the needle and the bobbin case hook
just as the needle starts to move up, the hook should be just above the eye of the needle at the edge of the needle
The adjustment is by loosing off the screw on the vertical shaft at the end of the machine that is attached to an arm that moves the needle up and down and move that bit up or down until the needle is positioned correctly to the hook
tighten up the screw
next is to check the needle tension is not too tight
workshop manuals are available on line in pdf version or take it to a sewing machine repair shop for a proper diagnosis

My machine will not sew on it's own.

Wife says it will likely have to be repaired by a machine specialist in your area. Sometimes when that happens, the time gets off and needs to be repaired. It works when you turn it because your going much slower than the speed the foot pedal goes.

Grinding noise and needles breaking

Needle breaks
1.the needle is damaged
2.the needle is not correctly inserted
3.wrong size needle for the fabric
4.the wrong foot is attached
5.the needle clamp screw is loose
6. Top tension is too tight
7. Machine could be out of time
since there is a grinding noise it would be a good idea to have the
machine checked

Huskylock viking serger machine is very noisy / squealling; oiled / cleaned machine, changed needles... It gets quieter if I sew fast.

some machine make more noise than others, but to be on the safe side I suggest having the machine check to see if there is something else wrong, it could be something is loose or worn in the machine.

Brother pe770 - needle threader is stuck in the down position while trying to thread it

Hi Kay,
I found the manual, in case you don't have one, HERE. On page 30, it has an illustration showing two buttons, and the presser foot lever. If you press the button once or twice, it will raise the needle.
> Press (Needle position button) once or twice to raise the needle.
> The needle is correctly raised when the mark on the handwheel is at the top, as shown below. Check the handwheel and, if this mark is not at this position, press (Needle position button) until it is.
Get the manual if you don't have one, that will give you so much more than any here can do, but I think that should solve you trouble, Please rate and comment, Thank You,
Joe
