I have humidiifer problem i thought we had solved a few weeks ago. Steve was very helpful. I have a generalaire 1042lh bypass humidifier that was not humidifing the house. After much investigation, we determined that the orifice in the orifice/strainer assembly on the solinoid was clogged. I put a nail through it and it began flowing. I thought the problem was solved, but it turned out the water would now flow constantly, even when the furnace was off. I thought i somehow ruined the orifice and ordered another orifice/ strainer assembly (part 990-37-76). I installed the new one, and it still constantly flows (even with the humidistat off. I do hear the click when i turn it on, so it is not the humidistat). I am at a loss. Could it be the solinoid itself?

Hello, first thing is check is the strainer going into the solenoid valve for sediment, if there is clean the strainer and reinstall. If the strainer in clean the check if you are getting 24 volts to the solenoid valve, if you have voltage and the solenoid does not let the water thru replace the solenod valve.
24 VAC HUM The yellow wire connected to the I.D. Blower pressure switch is powered anytime the pressure switch is closed and provides 24 VAC humidifier control. Remove the yellow wire and connect the supplied brown jumper wire to the pressure switch terminal. Reconnect the yellow wire to the "piggyback" terminal on the brown jumper and then connect the 24 VAC line of the humidifier to the stripped end of the brown wire. Using a wire nut or a field-supplied quick connect terminal can make this connection. The wiring must conform to all local and national codes. Connect the COM side of the humidifier to the B/C terminal on the furnace control board (or to the COM side of the 24 VAC transformer). DO NOT CONNECT 115V HUMIDIFIER TO THESE TERMINALS.
This may not be a humidity problem but a condensation problem. to cold outside too warm inside. humidifiers are tricky because they are to be set according to outside temperature, what you can do is try turning your dial up or down, let it be for a couple of days then try again until you get to a comfortable humidity level.
if you are constantly heating the house, your heter element in the furnace is drawing in and drying out the air you are humidifying. Heat the house, and then turn on the humidifier while the heater is not running. Is your humidifier able to do your entire house (whole house) or just a small room unit?
