Humidifiers - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

This humidifier is AMAZING. I’m a huge fan of using essential oils (lavender, lemongrass, spruce, rose, sandalwood etc) and I picked this up from a thrift shop, added some essential oils to the water and my house smells wonderful.

Essential oil diffusers are virtually the same thing design wise except cost a fortune. This is my best diffuser! I paid $10 for it and it works so good, throws off a ton of mist which I love (it’s so dry here) and I will enjoy owning this unit for years to come. Only thing is to gently clean the little ionizer part with the brush gently and keep it clean. Also..this unit unlike newer ones does NOT shut off automatically so keep an eye on it. Running it dry might cause it to burn out.

We were having the same problem. Here is how I fixed it but its hard to explain...
I took the main white part off and laid it side ways on a table looking inside there is a tube that goes from the top towards the main fan then connects to a plastic part that is shaped like a "p" In the middle part of the "p" you an see I tiny little gear. I manually turned the gear with a paper clip a few times and it worked. I had no idea what I was doing but I was determined!!!

I have got the same problem with my u7142 unit. This most probably means that the hygrostat inside is either broken or it has been heavily covered with the "white dust" in case the demineralization cartridge has not been changed for a long while.
To resolve it you have two options: either clean the humidity sensor or replace it. The sensor is at the bottom of the front panel, so you need to disassemble the front panel only, no need to open the whole unit (note that there are 2 screws at the bottom holding the front panel also). You need to get the sensor out from the printed circuit to open the cover and clean the surface of the sensor with something (blowing air does not help; you need physically touch the surface with something). If it does not help then you can go for the second option to replace the sensor, the type used in the unit is SYH-1. It is not a pricy element so you may go straight to the replacement if you find a shop nearby to buy it. I have simply replaced the sensor and now the unit is showing the proper humidity value and adjusting the steam automatically again.

Brother, I think you're OK here. I run a couple in my shop, both cheap from Walgreen's, and I'd be ruining the suckers once a week if they didn't have auto-shut-off. Your's should too. Sounds defective.

The dehumidifier may have been on its last legs when you received it.

Not much. You can check to see if your house fuse has blown to your outlet which you plug the device into. You can try cleaning the element with vinegar, allowing it to break off any white residue. You can't reset it if you have an inactive reset light. If it happened to be under warranty, now would be a good time to make use of that. These units seem to require daily cleaning. Whether or not that is a factor in it being inoperative, I can't say. I am including a link to its user manual but a quick look at the troubleshooting in the guide is not particularly helpful in this instance. There is a way to somewhat disassemble it to get gunk out but I cannot say that is at the root of the problem.
