Kenmore 86870100 dryer Push button to start and it just does move and keep getting a burning smell. First time it did it I unplugged it for a while and decided I might need to replace belt. After a few days I checkeed to see how to remove belt and belt was still on. So I plugged it back up and it started working. After drying about 4 loads I stop for a while then started back and the problem had came back.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series quit heating after burning smell..

Any kind of lint or cobwebs on the element would cause a hot spot and fry the element or pop the limit that is mounted on top of the chamber. What your hubby soulda done is take the machine down and vacuum it out after sitting up so long. The fuse is not blown because it still runs so it must be the small guy pictured. It mount up top of the heat element chamber.ff8b5e7.jpg

SOURCE: Kenmore electric dryer, won't start and clicks by time dry knob

usually the thermal fuse goes and dryer dies part number 3390719 located in front of dryer on top of the blower wheel housing, when you read anything out you have to pull one of the wires off to get correct reading.also on some of the dryers there is a switch on the pulley that will kill the dryer if the belt breaks

My Kenmore Ultra Care Dryer is having trouble starting. I'll push the button to start , it makes a noise like it is starting, but it may or may not start the cycle. If I keep pushing the button, it starts...

Sounds like you have a bad drive motor. All the symptoms point to this, intermittent no start ,noisey when it does run, and most of all burning smell, what you are smelling is the covering they use to protect the windings of the motor, this could be a potential fire hazard I would get this repaired soon or if the unit is old enough to justify replace it

Kenmore 70 series dryer will not start. When starter is depressed there is a sound like something is trying to engage but will not. Then we detect the smell of electrical burning. After a couple of tries...

Hi, It sound's like your dryer motor is cooked. Before you give it the last's rights, it could be something jamming the motor and preventing it from starting...though that usually won't cause them to smoke which would produce the electrical burning smell, just stop via the overload device. Time to unplug the unit and dig into it. If you feel capable, if not call in a pro. I would try to confirm the motor problem first it may be just as worth while to buy a dryer depending on the age & condition of your's. The motor's alone can be quite expensive. Hope that help's move you forward at least. Good luck. Macmarkus :)

When I push the start button on my maytag neptune dryer it sounds

MORE TIMES THAN NOT, WHEN I HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM, IT TAKES A NEW MOTOR TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING MOVES FREELY BEFORE CONDEMNING THE MOTOR THOUGH.

KENMORE DRYER WILL NOT START

It sounds like the motor has burned up or is burning up is why you are getting that smell. There could at the same time be a wire that has come loose or burned off that is causing it not to come on.

Burning smell after hitting the reset button

the lint may have moved into the motor/ or other areas, clean the unit again and have another inspection, checking for burn't wire etc.

Lady Kenmore electric dryer broken start button

it is time to replace it, that sound and smell is from the dryer motor itself.
