Seems the Skype community are having similar issues..

Try this:-

Please make sure you are using the latest version - currently 6.9.0.106. You can check your version in the menu "Help -> About". If you are running an older version please manually download and install the latest Skype version.

NB: The "Check for updates" features will not yet prompt for the 6.9 update.
If not check to see if they have posted anything newer here:-

I recoverd my computer and how do I reload Skype and keep my user name

Hi bpariz2,

To reload Skype on your computer just go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/windows/

When you complete the download for Skype please install the program.

After installing Skype you can now run the program by double clicking the icon that was created, or go to your "All Programs" folder under START.

It will prompt you to create a new log in, but there is a small button that says "I Already Have An Account" Click that to allow yourself to log into your old account.

Cheers,
Garbanian

Cant run or stall skype

Are you getting an error message when you try to install Skype? The error code would help, if you could write it down if it shows one. Download a fresh install of Skype from here:

You'll need to install Microsoft Direct X before you install Skype. You can get it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3021d52b-514e-41d3-ad02-438a3ba730ba

And, make sure you have the latest Skype version installed:

Am trying to install Skype, I keep on getting error code 1618 which says that another program is installing, complete installation before installing skype. I do not have another program installing. so what...

No to worry. When this happened on my system I had asked it to create a log file. After checking the log I found that skype returns the error message after installing the application! If I am not wrong that should be the case in your system too. Check in start->programs to see if its already installed.
Also you may want to install this hotfix to avoid future problems with skype.

I can't log into skype. I keep getting Disk I/O error message.

You need to delete the folder that holds your account information for Skype.
I can be found in: C:\Documents and Settings\<winuser>\Application Data\Skype\<skypename> for XP or, C:\Users\<winuser>\AppData\Roaming\Skype\<skypename> for Vista

I just deleted any user account folder I saw, reopened, logged in...worked fine.
