Gas fumes from maytag range

When I start the oven you can smell fumes. I have to open the kitchen window when I first turn on the oven After a few minutes the smell of gas is gone. The stove is model no mgs 5875 BDB I purchased the range in 2007. The retailer has replaced the ignitor. The professional gas installer has been here several times to check the. Gas lines. Also had the fire department come and make sure all is good !!!

Had the same problem.... just replaced the ignitor in the bottom of the oven... worked like a charm. 10 minute fix

SOURCE: Trouble lighting oven, smell gas

Sounds like an igniter problem to me. They are heating elements with a limited life & are quite easy to change. There is one for the broiler on the top as well. Why not try swapping them to confirm this diagnosis. If you never use broil then your problem may be solved!

The ignitor is not working right and is going bad....
have the repair man replace the ignitor, or DIY....

Strong fumes from new frigidaire gas oven.what should i look for
If it smells like gas Shut the gas off outside call installer, or
gas company. If it doesn't smell like gas, most likely it's the "new smell" caused by the heat. If you have a kitchen vent fan turn it on. If it persists Call the installer or dealer. No action by them? call the mfg customer service number in your owner's manual. It's possible something was left in the oven burner area that shouldn't be there.

Why do i smell gas?
Either one or more of the hobs or oven may be turned on but not lit or there is a leak. Check all controls are turned off, if you can still smell gas I would recommend turning the gas off at the meter point and calling either a professional gas fitter or the gas emergency services. It would also be wise to not smoke and open a window or door until the gas smell has gone.

Have a maytag Stove Model# mgr5729adw oven stopped working and just before it did smelled gas. ignitor looks to be good no cracks.
Our Maytag MGR5729ADW recently started having a problem. Whenever the oven was turned on gas would flow but did not ignite. My wife thought she was baking, but I walked in the kitchen and smell a heavy gas smell. Bad igniter or not the gas control valve should never open unless there is ignition. Had we turned on the oven and left the house, there would have been a major problem.
After a little more checking I will probably replace the igniter and the gas control valve. The parts are not cheap but neither is a house.

you have a gas leak that will explode doing a lot of damage
as gas in not the DIY domain , call an accredited gas fitter to fix the problem

Maytag Gas range
We had the same thing happen and had the Atco Gas company come out to look at it.  Our regulator was not working properly which caused CO to be relased.  We were told that the problem could be fixed for about $250-300 (CAN.) including parts and labour.

Oven won't light
You most likely need to replace the filament that heats up to ignite the gas. My oven did the same thing and that solved the problem.
