I'm having the same issue, which is how I found your complaint. I googled the issue and your problem was the first to pop up. I have no idea how to fix it and I am wondering if you had any luck, or if you just went out and bought a new one?
The remote is a Hampton Bay remote that should dim the light and fan on and off. I replaced the battery and do not have a red light when I press the button. Light and fan does not turn off with remote.
When our 2-year-old niece got hold of our Hampton Bay fan remote, we learned from her actions that holding down the button that controls the upper or lower light will, after a pause, either brighten or dim that light. Our fan is older than yours, but perhaps yours works the same way?
