Unable to align Epson 3540 print heads

Printer is a couple of months old, when I replaced cartridges recently, noticed that I needed to clean or align the print heads. Didn't need cleaning, but the alignment is way off. Every time I have selected Re-alignment because the alignment is so bad, but the heads alignment doesn't get any better. Color is the worst, ran realignment 20 times and no closer to having heads aligned.

Micky Tried resetting the cartridges and turn off and unplug, neather seemed to make a difference. Vertical alignment is fine, it's only the black and color horizontal that has the issue.

Hi, it is possible that the cartridge/s are not seated properly.
Try and remove them and reposition them again.
Sometimes this will work.
Also try turning the printer off and unplug it for a short time then retry installing the cartridges again.
then do a realine and see if it helps.
Regards Micky

SOURCE: Printing alignment problem

First thing to try is to remove the power brick (not just the cord the whole brick) from printer for a minute then re insert and try it again. If this doesn't help try uninstalling it then re installing the printer

1Verify that the printer is turned on. If the printer is not on, check to ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet, then press and release the power button one time. Wait for a few seconds while the printer powers up. Step2Lift the paper output tray. Load the letter or A4 unused plain white printer paper into the paper input tray. Lower the paper output tray. Step3Double left click the "HP Solution Center" icon to open the application. Single left click the "Help and Support" tab. Single left click the "Printer Toolbox" link. Single left click the "Align Print Cartridges" option to open the "Alignment Page" window. Single left click "Align." Step4Wait while the printer prints an alignment page. Examine the alignment page carefully and select the option that appears to be most correctly aligned. Select that option by single left clicking the corresponding option on the drop-down choices in the alignment window. Step5Single left click the "Done" button once you have entered all appropriate options. Wait while the printer prints a confirmation page. hope this helps

SOURCE: When I print or copy there are missing lines of print.

Hi, one or two head cleans won't clear a badly clogged nozzle. Try doing 4 or 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with a nozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. If there is no improvement then you need a head cleaning solution such as this one:
http://www.powerklin.co.uk/?gclid=CNGDypir-JgCFQ4yQgodZlC4lw

Others are available just try googling "inkjet head cleaning".
Note that head cleaning uses between 5 and ten percent of your ink cart's, if any are low on ink have some new ones ready. Epson recommends printing a colorful document at least once a month to prevent nozzles getting clogged, see the Epson online guide:
http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ProductHome.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=lkuCfcvA9cwxY9S6wZhcOql4VsOeN1ay&tc=5#10
Hope this helps.
Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.

How to realign WF-3540 print location on the page

To realign the print location on your Epson WorkForce WF-3540 printer, you will need to perform a print head alignment. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Load plain paper in the printer: Make sure the printer has plain paper loaded in the tray.
  2. Access the printer's maintenance menu: Press and hold the "Stop" button on the printer control panel for three seconds to access the maintenance menu.
  3. Select the "Print Head Alignment" option: Use the arrow buttons to select the "Print Head Alignment" option from the maintenance menu and press the "OK" button.
  4. Follow the prompts: The printer will print out a test pattern and prompt you to confirm the alignment. Follow the prompts on the printer control panel to complete the print head alignment process.
  5. Test the printer: Once the print head alignment is complete, print a test page to check the print location on the page. If the alignment is still not correct, you may need to repeat the process or try a different method of realigning the print head.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

My black ink cartridge ran out and it was 2 weeks before I replaced it-the old cartridge was still in the printer. Now with all new cartridges it will not print solid black-only a grey color instead of...

Hi Good day!!! if you try the head cleaning for 1 dozen of time and nothing has change, try this one method I'll give you, before you buy a new printer. all you need to have is a cleaning solution kit and a syringe.
1. remove the cartridge to expose the nozzle that feed the head
2. fill syringe with 2ml of your cleaning solution.
3. push end of tube over the nozzle that takes ink from the cartridge.
4.gently push the syringe allowing 1ml of cleaning solution to pass down the tube and into the head
5. leave the syringe in this position for couple of hours to allow the fluid to soak the dried ink particles.
6. after a couple of hours gentle push the rest of the fluid through the end
7. the next few prints may be contaminated with cleaning fluid and you are advised before carrying out any prints to do a full head clean using printer utility.
8. if after step 8 you still have a problem you can repeat the operation up to step 6, but instead of pushing the fluid through the head draw the fluid back into the syringe, and then back to the head, this causes fluid to move backward and forward in the head assembly, you should notice air bubbles and very small dried ink particles whist doing this. Please note while this product will remove stubborn dried ink particles it will not damage print head.

How do I clean the printer heads

Instructions:

  1. Click Start, select Settings and then Printers.
  2. Right-click on the icon for the relevant printer and select Properties. This will display the printer Properties.
  3. Click on to the Utility or Maintenance tab:
  4. In this window, click the Head Cleaning icon.
  5. This will launch the utility, click Start.
  6. This will perform one head clean, a status window will be displayed whilst this is in progress:
Caution: Never turn off the printer while the On light is flashing. Doing so may damage the printer.

The printer will print out a nozzle check pattern. Compare the printout with the next window:

  • If there are gaps or faint print on your printout click Clean.
  • If it is complete, click Finish.

If gaps are still present in the nozzle check pattern, power off the printer and leave it for at least six hours. Print a nozzle check following this period.
If this does not show improvement, then it is recommended that you install a new set of genuine Epson ink cartridges. If only certain colours are affected, you could replace the associated cartridge. Epson recommend replacing damaged or old cartridges - we recommend replacing cartridges that have been open for over 6 months (from the date the cartridge was first removed from its plastic vacuum packaging).
However, if the nozzle check is OK but the text is still broken you may need to run the Print Head Alignment utility.

If you need to change a cartridge before it or any other cartridges are low or expended, run the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility.

You cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expended even if the other cartridges are not expended. Replace any expended cartridges before printing or copying.

Leave your old cartridges in the Epson Stylus NX110 Series until you are ready to replace them to prevent the print head nozzles from drying out.
When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head.
Follow the instructions in these sections to check and replace your ink cartridges:
Replace Cartridges Using a Printer Software Utility
For best printing results, use up a cartridge within six months of opening the package. If you need to replace a cartridge when the ink light is flashing or off (before the cartridge is expended), you can run the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility.

1. Windows: Right-click the printer icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (the taskbar) and select Printer Settings. Click the Maintenance tab.
Macintosh: Open the Applications folder, open EPSON Printer Utility3, select your printer (if necessary), and click OK.

You see one of these screen SEE ATTACHMENT BELOW

2. Click the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility icon and follow the on-screen instructions to replace your ink cartridges as necessary

I can't get my black ink to print.

Could be the ink dried up. Unusual but happens sometimes. If you shake it does it sound like liquid in it?

If you recently replaced the cartridge, did you remember to take the tape off? (I know, sounds silly, but sometimes it happens.)

In the software, does it register that there's a blank ink cartridge installed?

Just a couple of ideas to get you going. Respond back and I'll work more with you.

Very Faint Printouts

I find the best way to clean the heads is buy some cleaning cartridges as they have cleaning fluid in them and use them to clean it will take about 10 or more times to clean the heads then put the color ones back in and try again.
Just keep putting it on clean the head don't do a print out till at lest you have cleaned 10 or more times.
