Re: Problems

I just called the Xerox customer support number (800-648-0410) and they solved that verticle line problem in 10 seconds. Here's the solution: Clean the white-strip raised section on the top portion of the glass with some isopropyl alcohol on a rag. There is a piece of dirt there that shows up as a line when it runs through the document feeder. If you're just scanning on the glass, you don't see it because it's just a spec of dirt, but through the feeder, the dirt shows up as a solid line throughout the whole document. By cleaning that section off, it takes out the line. Viola! I worked for me. That's the second time I've called Xerox for a problem with my scanner, and I would like to report that their customer support is awesome!

Re: Problems

If the the scanner is based on lLED then probably one of the LED is not working, and if this is florescent tube based then there is somthing wron with the CCD or the Reflector. open it and check it for a spot in the reflector.

Re: Problems

Assuming the the Glass is cleaned-  and the device is mechanically functional- then the only other thing to go wrong is the CCD- the image capture device- at that stage I suggest there is no repair feasible only replacement of the whole unit.
However a trawl of the Visioneer Web site/customer support may  give a clue.

I have kodak i2600 scanner, when i was scanned document its getting black lines on the document how to solve this problem please help me

Black lines on most any scanner will be caused by dirt in the scanning system, or by a damaged/defective scanner sensor. You can clean the window.

When I scan a receipt a 2" line (vertical) appears. I've purchased and tried the cleaning kit but it didn't remove this black line. Please help

It seems as though the scan bar (the bright light strip that scans the document) has a faulty receptor. It needs servicing or replacement. Assuming it's under warranty take it back to your supplier for repair/replacement/refund.

I've cleaned the glass and still have a black line on the image

Scan a document in 300 dpi in full width. Check where the line appears in the image. For example if the black line appears at vertical position say 1900, then it means the dirt is at 1900/300 i.e., 6.3 inches from left. Clean the area thoroughly. Check if any pin had created a scratch in the glass. At different contrast levels, if the line appears different, it is definitely unclean glass. On the contrary, if the line appears constant at various levels of contrast, then it is possible that scan module is faulty.

One sided scanning is fine, but two sided scans have a 1/4 inch black line vertically down the left side. Cleaning does nothing.

When you say one sided scans are OK, are you using the ADF (auto document feeder) or the flatbed? Are you using the ADF for the two sided scan? What parts have you cleaned thus far? A little more info please?

The scanner makes unwanted vertical lines down the document

Clean Optical path to camera lenses back and front, then Calibrate through the Kodak SVTool.

Very crisp vertical grey line appears (glass clean)

I have the exact same problem. It was there since I first bought the MFC-7840W.
Vertical line appears in scans using the automatic document feeder (ADF).
Vertical line does not appear when scanning single page (placing it directly on the glass -- i.e. not using the ADF).

Cleaning the glass strip for the ADF (or the white pressure bar overhead) does not solve the problem.
The problem does not occur with copies using the ADF (using the COPY button which is basically a scan and print). This would suggest that dust and dirt is not to blame because that would also appear on the copies.
But since I believe a copy is basically a scan plus print, they should be using the same electronics -- a hardware problem on the scan would likely appear on a copy also -- there is some difference between how they accomplish this.
It's definitely not a software issue since it occurs on all versions of Windows and Mac OS X (and multiple computers). It also does not matter whether I "push" the scan to the computer by using the scan button on the MFC... or "pull" the scan from the MFC using the Brother Control Center software.

Vertical line in scanned image

This is because of dust sticking to the glass. Clean with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and dont use solvents. For emergency you can use your after shave but take care only to clean the glass portion!

One side of the scanned document is black

If the borders of the black strip are crisp, then there could be some hardware problem, in the scaniing module. If it is jaggered and varies depending upon the contrast chosen, then may be something is stuck to the glass. Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol only.

Scanner inserts vertical line on some documents

Clean the glass with IsoPropyl Alcohol. Dont use any other solvent. A speck of dust stuck to the glass can give a continuous line in the output
