your comp can only handle so much ram,you also need to use the same ram,check how much ram it recognizes with only two,then 3,then 4,64 bit comps only recognize 4 gb,32 bit recognizes any gb ram.

General answer is YES, I can install a 32-bit application on 64-bit OS. I have exactly same situation in my laptop. Both 32-bit LibreOffice and 32-bit MS Office are installed on W7 & W8 laptops and work well.
But NO vice versa. The 32-bit system does not allow to install 64-bit application. The 32b system does not support 64b instruction set required for 64b applications.

64 bit OS can run 32 bit software but if the software provider has a version for 64 bit it might require you to download this version ad prevent you from installing the 32 bit version.

If you have tried installing the printer driver for 32-bit on your computer, you might want to uninstall it first before installing the Lexmark X6650 driver for 64-bit. Go to Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark X6600 Series -> Tools -> Uninstall. Reboot pc when prompted.

The answer to your question above is Yes, you can install 32-bit applications on a 64-bit desktop/laptop. Please note 3 things:
1. The 64-bit environment will be determined by both the CPU and OS being 64-bit capable. If one of the them is not, then the system will not perform at the 64-bit level.
2. 32-bit applications can be installed on a 64-bit OS and they will function properly - but only at a 32-bit level. They will not take advantage of the 64-bit environment until the application is certified for 64-bit.

Yes you can, unfortunately you can not upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, you would need to do a fresh installation. Also your processor and motherboard need to support 64-bit architecture. If you start the installation for the 64bit if the architecture isnt supported it would notify you that the installation can not be completed with an error message.

yes
if your machine is 64-bit Vista, then you need to install Windows XP-64bit.
you can install Windows 32-bit on a 64-bit machine, it will work. just not as good. However, you can't install 64-bit OS on a 32-bit machine.
if the machine is 32-bit then you can install any type of OS you want, you can even install them as dual boot.
