have a good signal but cannot display the web page

  • Anonymous Oct 18, 2008

My Compaq v2000 laptop with IE suddenly began displaying "CANNOT
DISPLAY WEB PAGE". I have AOL and BellSouth DSL with a LinkSys
router. Strong wireless signal, no virus found, everything
working the way it always does, except Internet Explorer.

I also have Netscape, and the Netscape browser works perfectly every time.

I have Norton's ani virus installed, and every time I click on it to
open, only a partial window opens, and the window is transparent, with
only the four sided frame showing. And this window won't delete.
The only way to get rid of it is to power down and reboot. I
tried to uninstall Norton, but since it was installed by downloading
through IE, it won't let me uninstall.

Ever since these problems began, I sometimes have trouble signing off
and turning off the computer. It doesn't respond to the LOG OFF
and TURN OFF tabs. So I have to press the power switch and get it
    to hibernate.

This problem surfaced recently on my return to Singapore. Now, my wireless connection is showing 'good' but on right-clicking and selecting 'status', under activity, the packet for 'received' continues to register 0.

When I connect to the internet using LAN, IE displays normally although at a rather slow rate.

    Grateful if someone can help.

    Best regards,

    Christine

Well it looks like I am having the same issue I am unable to get Windows Explorer to work. Not sure if it a software problem or a virus. Though I am able to get Firefox to work. Not sure. It could be a registry issue. I tried some of the registry inputs above but so far no success. ???? And no it is not the Tools Internet Connection tabs. Automatic Detection Setting etc.

Well, I can connect to the internet and all the sites that I need. I have a new website, but I'm having a problem in my administration pages. When I attempt to go into the Products/categories section of my website, I get the message "Internet Explorer can not display this...." However, when I go to another computer besides my home computer it works fine." Therefore, the problem is in my computer. I'm in the process of trying some of your rememdies. Hope they work. The first one didn't work. I changed the LAN settings, which didn't work. I also unchecked the Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages. Neither worked. Oh, when I changed the LAN Settings I can't even get to the front page. Okay, can someone help me please......

  • jrooch89 Mar 23, 2009

Id just like to say ive been to every blog site i can find asking and answering this question.

My PC does not display web pages despite my connectivity. I have a lap top that is currently working well with the internet. However, when i first brought the laptop to my network it had a similar if not the same exact issue. I had my parental bring it to his technical expert at work and he fixed it that week. I want to avoid that nonsenses and just do it myself. Im more than capable.

So here is my problem, i used my comand prompt to get my ip. i could ping only my own address. not my lap top not any other website. just the ip my pc was currently connected to. I tried entering my ip and subnet maks and gateway. no luck. both ip and dns are on automatic, still no internet web pages. my ip on my lap top is different by one digit. idk if thats an issue or even how to change it. im tryin to avoid messing with the internet connection on the laptop cuz its the only other internet accessible computer in the house. I have a netgear n-mimo router connected to a cable modem. I put together my pc but i am missing the usb connector to pick up the signal. so in replacement im using my old linksys wireless g broadband router model wrt54g, which use to not work. on a whim i connected it with a single wire from port a to my ethernet port in my PCs modem. this made the local connection possible WIRELESSLY! (100mbps)

What should i do? Im sick of messing with tthe command prompt. Im no hacker. I can barely keep my computer free of viruses. I need a simple solution or maybe just the right answer.

    PLEASE HELP

I'm running Vista and have the same problem. After I click "diagnose error" it then refreshes and takes me to the page I requested. And it always tells me I connected to the internet and it can't detect a problem. I know my signal is strong. Guess I should be happy I can get in on the second try but I'm confused as to why it doesn't connect the first time I start IE or click a link. thanks!

I've been having the same problem after I change my Aztech router to D-Link. I hope these can help you because my problem solved after doing it.

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and make sure you check the 'Automatically detect settings' option box and the other two boxes is left unchecked. Good luck!!!

I had the same issue. I got some malware, ran malwarebytes, but after that IE and Google Chrome would not work. Luckily firefox did. I tried some options here none worked, but I did go to tools/internet options/connections/Lan Options and unchecked "use proxy server".

This is because your setting are wrong.
go in to control panel> connection manager> "your connection"> right click and select " properties"> select ipv4 and make sure that the "obtain ip address automatically" is selected
let me know!

I have had this same problem with IE7 in XP (SP3) for at least three months, even though I have continued to have no problem opening web pages using Firefox. I have tried every step on the MS Support website with no luck.

Today I finally tried running the file netwiz.exe under C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard. In the wizard I changed the proxy setting from "manual" to "automatically detect". When the wizard completed, I opened IE and went through the set up process for a new installation. I am now having no problems accessing the web.

Recently, I have the same problem but it's not connection issue. It looks like a virus issue but I can not find it. First, my mouse move to border automatically when I turned on the computer. I could not use the mouse to do anything. After, I fixed it. Now, my IE has a lot of malfunctions such as RunOnce was as home page, "Find" button was disable (grey out), IE uninstall button disappeared in add/remove program, and some website displayed blank page without content (not all of them). I have used "browser hijack" software to reset and reinstall IE 7. The problem still exists. Any suggestiong. Thanks.

You guys could try the following to bring back the browser service, if it's not a connection or dns issue:

1. in the cml run "regsvr32 actxprxy.dll" and "regsvr32 shdocvw.dll"
2. reboot windows

If the above couldn't fix the issues, run the following extra commds:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
and restart the system once again

My laptop just did this when I was trying to access the Microsoft Partners web site with IE. 3 other browsers I have worked, but not IE. I found turning off my firewall briefly let IE work, and then found IE in the list of programs that the firewall keeps was marked "Block" so I changed that to "Allow" and now IE works even when the firewall is on. I vaguely remember a security tip from I think Symantec that advised to deny IE until it was patched over some worm threat? Anyway, if any of you are running Norton 360 in particular look for a firewall rule.

Hi. I just fixed this problem after reading countless forums. This worked for me:

Go to control panel>Network Connections and right-click on your wireless connection then select "properties">"internet protocol [tcp/ip]" Once that's selected click "properties" and make sure that the "Obtain an IP address automatically" option is checked. Finally click OK. That did it for me, hope it helps!

Anne, You didn't say what problem you are having with your computer. You have to state what happens when you try to use your system, then someone would be able to walk you through the steps to fix the problem in simple terms .

SOURCE: Internet Explorer cannot display the web page

Have you installed any software firewalls lately, I know Norton has a habit of randomly blocking the internet.

Try disabling any firewall you may have and try again, if the internet surfing problem persists, try plugging in a wired connection and seeing if you can surf from there.

I have the same problem. The only way I could get it to work is to click on the wifi icon. Select the wireless information tab, select your connection. Right click on it and delete it. Then Add new and reinstall. Right now I have to do this every time I power down or 'Suspend' but it does work.

My wireless network connection status in connected Speed is11.0 and my signal strength is good, but I cannot connect to the internet connection godd but internet explorer cannot display the webpage

You are getting local access only.
Right click on the icon in the system tray and click repair....

If it still happens you need to connect to a different network..this usually happens if you are connecting to an unsecured network (I assume yours).

Alternative: Unplug the network adapter. Turn off the computer. Wait approx 2 minutes.
Power on computer with net adapter connected....

Internet Explorer cannot display the web page

Hi there.
You need to reset the the wireless router and the modem, to do this just pull the power from the back of them for 2 minutes, don't power them off from the wall.
After the 2 minutes is up plug the power back in and wait for another 2 minutes for them go through the boot procedure. After that try to connect again.
If it still doesn't connect post back.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

Internet Explorer cannot display the web page

There are many possibilities that you are unable to connect to internet.

Can you check your internet explorer is not in offline mode? in IE goto File->Work Offline must not be ticked.

Open command prompt, and type "ping yahoo.com" and press enter, you will see the % rate of dropping whether is connected to internet or not will tell too. Write me what do you see in the command prompt.

Note: It will be good if you can call me over the phone and explain in details to solve your problem quickly.
