I have an rusty old Maytag "imperial seventy" left by the owner of the house we just purchased. It worked fine til this week when the dryer started banging fast and methodically. If it IS the belt or the drum, is it worth it replacing it, or moving on to a new model?

I would say keep it. I've been using my dryer for over 30 years with only a few minor/inexpensive repairs -- it works perfectly.

I doubt it's the drum. It's probably the roller the upon which the drum rests which is out of whack, worn out, etc. Not a very expensive part.

you may have a bad thermal fuse.unplug dryer, remove back panel, look for a white part with2 connectors on the blower housing and remove one, using a continuity or ohmmeter put across the leads and if you hear no sound or see no reading in meterreplace that part. is the thermal fuse. this is the most common problem forthat failure.

The dryer was doing about a 20 min. cycle then we had to wait to start it til it cooled down and now it will not even start anymore

What you need to do is pop the top remove the front and check the blower wheel and filter housing for a blockage, then change the fuse after you have cleaned out the dryer.

Whirlpool Imperial seventy dryer does not heat up

If there is a copper line feeding gas to it, PULL THE DRYER WAY FROM THE WALL AND TURN THE GAS OFF AT THE VALVE IMMEDIATELY!

Natural gas and copper do not mix, and the copper line will corrode from the inside out.

Now, on to the problem, it's very likely the timer has failed IF it does not rotate all the way through the drying cycle. If it does, and the clothes do not heat up, then reply back what you are experiencing and I will give you move help.

My whirlpool imperial seventy dryer timer quit working when the heating element was replaced and now the dryer quit turning on at all, makes a clicking noise when you turn it on and that's all

I have the same dryer and it did the same thing to me. It ended up being the thermal switch and a frozen drum and belt due to excessive lint. Had to pay $190 to fix it, not sure if this is something that can be self repaired.

Dryer has no heat on any setting after house fuse blew.

We got the problem with our dryer figured out. After checking possible solutions on-line, we checked the power going into the dryer with a ohm tester and discovered we weren't getting full power that we expected. Just after changing the fuses in the house the first time we heard a snap sound but the fuses appeared to be fine, but no heat to the dryer. When we discovered we weren't getting full power we used the ohm tester to test the fuses indiviually and discovered one of the fuses were bad. Put in a new fuse and wala! the dryer is putting out heat. Thank you so much for the service you provide to "do-it-yourselfers" like us!
