Spare remote control for insignia converter box?

The digital to analog converters did not exist when the TV was built and the remote programmed. Thus you will have more luck programming the converter box's remote to control the TV. (At least with my converter box, the included remote could only turn on and off the TV. It would only change channels on the converter.)

Most universal remotes only have codes for devices released 6 months or more before the TV was programmed. So a new universal remote will probably control both the TV and the converter box. (Program the converter box using a code for LG or Zenith set top boxes if Insignia isn't listed. LG makes Insignia video products for Best Buy.) The remotes that are programmable by a USB connection to a computer are the fastest to set up.

Since Insignia and LG share compatible codes for digital-to-analog converters, review your remote control's manual for LG VCR codes as they should work to control the Insignia converter.

If you have a GE universal remote try code 0656

Plug the Insignia output to TV video 1. Turn on TV, set to video 1 source. Turn on Insigna. You should now have picture and be able to go through the set up again.

Set your TV input to match the input your have your Insigna connected to. Then run the Insignia setup. You are getting a distorted screen because you probably have the Insignia connected to channel 3 and the TV on channel 4.

Connect your Insigna unit to your television video 1 input. Connect your antenna to the Insigna. Turn on the television to video 1 source. Power on the Insignia. Now go through the auto-detect routine to set up your television stations.

Orion code 0490 solved it for me!

I have heard alot of people having the same type of problem with booth the insigna and the Magnavox boxes. Check the warranty that came with the unit and and call the 1800 number, they may be covering the unit for more then three months. Insigna is the Best Buy brand thus thus if calling the maker of the box (LG) doesn't get it fixed, speak to the store manager. He can exchange the unit if he wants to because Insigna is the store brand. Call Best Buy and complain and complain unit they take back the defective unit.
