Lights on scanner will not read the dtc 99 vw passat

All of the scanner ports on cars are required to be within a certain distance of the steering wheel. Typically they are not far under the steering wheel. Look for a cover if it is not clearly visible from under the dash.
OBD2 scanners will scan the engine components only...which is useful. If you want to read all your VW systems, you will need a VAG scan tool. You can find them for $50.

i would say the up stream o2 sensor.if you had a decent scanner you could watch the readings and know for sure.this is just and educated guess as i do not know those readings.

99 passat have no low beams only high beams and daytime running lights with switch on lose low beams any answers?

i had this problem on my 2002 passat. it was the ignition coils. first set were replaced in 2002 as a vw recall. second set (at 122K miles) were relatively inexpensive to fix. just one failed but it made the engine run really rough - my mechanic was able to move it from one cylinder to the next to get the problem to repeat.

The ABS control unit is failing, this is a very common issue with the 98 and 99 model Passats. You will need to have the ABS control unit replaced. You can now purchase the ABS control unit by itself but it is still pricey. Depending on which pump you have will determine which control unit you need to get. The run around $600 - $750.00 plus labor to install. The control unit needs to be installed by some one with a factory type scanner, as the new unit will need to be coded for that vehicle.
