Try updating your drivers from www.hp.com

If the issue is that it won't play DVD movies only then you probably need to install or re-install the DVD player software that should have come with your computer. If you don't have it anymore, simply download from HP.

I have a NEC DVD RW ND-3530a and my windows xp service pack 3 stopped recognizing it. it no longer reads as a drive. The device manager has it listed with a yellow !. I have tried uninstalling and...

Remove the drive from your computer, and temporarily connect it to another desktop computer.
If it still does not work, then it's time to responsibly recycle it, and spend $40 to purchase a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

Installed XP SP3 to my Dell 6000 and now NEC 6500a can't be found. Device manager says that the drivers are loaded by cannot find the hardward Code 41

Hi,
see if its recognised in the Device Manager. Start/My computer/Control Panel/System/Device manager.
if so remove or uninstall the Drive.
Physically remove/eject the drive from the Computer. reboot then shutdown. re-insert the Drive. boot computer and see if it,s detected by the system or ( found new hardware Wizard )
re-install any drivers as requested. Installing SP3 shouldn,t do this. unless the drive was actually Virused Or failing already.

Does the drive show any activity after a disk is inserted and does the LED light illuminate?
If the drive won't read the contents of any CD or DVD disk, then remove the drive an insert it again.
Insert a disk and see if the is activity, if there is nothing then most likely the drive is dead and you need a replacement.
Try and borrow a drive and test it in your laptop.

Cd/dvd drive device is broke

There is a reason most DVD readers, writers are so cheep is because they are warranted for 1 year. If you're NEC is less than a year old & you have a recipt you can send it back to NEC for a new one. If you need another DVD player to replace a bad DVD drive & want to buy one, I can suggest a couple.

It would not hurt to install the firmware for you're current DVD drive. This might breath life back to the drive. (Might)! Nothing to loose. Download the firmware from this link: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Nec/Nec-ND-6500A-firmware-424.shtml

Good Luck!

NEC ND-6500A Cant burn DVD-R

I figured out what was causing the problem with my NEC 6500A on my Dell laptop: The Sony Picture Motion Browser software that I was using to burn DVD's is only compatible up to Service Pack 2 of Windows XP. The day after I installed Service Pack 3, the software stopped burning DVD's. So I uninstalled Service Pack 3, rebooted, unistalled the Sony PMB software, rebooted and re-installed the Sony PMB software and I can now burn DVD's again. So check whether the software you're burning your DVD's with is compatible with whatever version of your operating system you're operating with. Hope this helps someone else!

NEC ND-6500A DVD±RW DON'T READ CD

I have encountered this problem numerous times and, while I'm not sure of the exact cause, the remedy that works 90% of the time for me is to create a 1:1 solution of isopropyl alcohol & distilled water and to GENTLY brush the laser with a cotton swab tipped with this solution.  Afterwards, use the other side of the swab to completely dry off the laser, ensuring that absolutely no cotton fibers are left behind.  Good luck!

CD/DVD won't eject, won't play, Device Manager doesn't recognize.

If it's only 8 months old, then you have atleast 4 months left on your warranty. The problem will either be the ide controller channel or the dvd drive and firmware has faulted, the same fault probably happens when you have put a dvd in and it wont read or eject. Return to the place of purchase, where the drive should be replaced or the notebook exchanged.
