After being off over night, I have to turn it on about 15-20 times before it will stay on.. When I press the start button the green light will flash, sound comes on, picture will flash on for 1 sec., sound continues for about 3 sec. then sound stops & red light on power/standby will flash 1 time then I hear a something click in back & the red light flashes 4 more times (all this in rapid succesion.. Someone said it sounds like the bulb or ballast.. If so, how do I determine which & is their any instructions on replacing the ballast.. I watched a service man replace the engine last week & feel I could replace the ballast if needed... Thanks Roger
Roger, I have the KDS-R60XRB1 and it is a little over 3 years old. A few months ago we got the "greenish tint" problem and the Tweeter technician came out and replced the whole optical engine (under full free extended warrantee) and ecplained that the porblem is too much heat build-up from the lamp, especially if you leave it on the brightest setting (vivid). The heat breaks down the closest LCD screen (they are positioned sequencially in front og the bulb as gree, then blue then red). All was perfect, EXCEPT, every week or so we would experience the same problem with the set comingon for 2 seconds and shuttng down with the red light blinking four times. If we tried one or two more times, the set wold come on as usual. finally last week, it did the flashing red light thing and just wold come back on no matter how many times i tries. I called Tweeter service and he said it is due to the plastic door cover for the lamp. It is warped from the heat and there is a little plastic pin on the door that pushes a micro-switch that is intended to shut down the TV if the lamp door is not seated properly. He said this happens to a lot of the sets that also experienced the optical engine (green tint) problem. While he was on the phone (2 minutes), I loosened the screwon the door, opened it, and pulled out and reseated the light "box", the re-installed the door and made sure in was firmly seated and tightly screwed in. The set no worrks fine. He said he will order a new door (also under the extended warrantee from Sony) and will drop by and replace this door (which is porbably a little warped) as soon as the new one comes in. I hope this helps. PAB
Check that the large fan in the back is working when you turn it on. If not, the set will shut itself off
