I want to set my text message alert with one of my fav sounds
I have one of my favourite sounds stored in My Files (1) Music and it will only let me set it as a ringtone, caller ringtone or alarm tone. I want to set it as a text message alert. Any ideas??

I use SMS Popup (from the Play Store) for repeating text message reminders. It has other functions, but I primarily use the 'reminder' options. I'm not sure if you could (or should) do 5 to 10 second intervals as it would probably kill your battery. I think that 1 minute is the minimum. I guess you could also use a notification sound that is longer. You could even record your own. I once recorded myself coughing and used it as the notification.
I just bought the phone today and even called Straight Talk about it and they put me through all the steps to set it up ( text message alerts) and ~ you guessed it!~ same stuff I'd already done and no results. If I'd known about this problem I'd have never bought the phone. For people who communicate a lot via texts, this is a major drawback as others have said. Who wants to spend their entire day constantly having to look at the phone to see if any SILENT messages have arrived? It would be o.k. if you had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and didn't mind but for normal people it's a royal pain in the you know what!
you may try to do these steps.
1. press menu
2. select settings
3. select phone profiles
4. press and select the >> (double arrow) normal profile or what ever profile you have chosen.
5. beside the normal mode you will see there a drop down list, a box with down solid arrow
6. press that box and it will give you the least of options
7. select new messages
8. under new messages settings you will have a list of options,
9. select and press message alert tone and browse for the files stored in your memory card.
10. press save and exit the setup.
>> you don't need to copy or move the files you want as text alert tone for it will move automatically once you assigned it as message tone.
>>to check if your files has been moved, from your menu, press my files, filter your files through drop down list, select phone memory, it will give you the list of files there.
regards.
Instead of changing the ringtone settings, tap the message alert tab (in the top centre of the display). A set of message alert settings appears . You can change the Message alert type, if you want to, by tapping the panel and choosing the appropriate option. To change the Message alert tone, press the Message alert tone panel . In the menu that appears, press Change. Then choose one of the options Use effect tone (one of Samsung's pre-loaded effects) or Use my alert tone (allowing you to choose from your own sounds) . In this example, press Use my alert tone. Press the Sounds option. In a similar way as changing ringtones (above) you now have the choice of choosing from your Music files, Ringtones that are loaded onto the phone, or My voice clips . In our example, we'll again choose a file from our Music folder. Press the Music option. A list of suitable MP3 tracks appears. Tap the one you want in order to highlight it. Press Options, then tap on the Select menu option to install it as your message alert . You are now taken back to the Normal profile settings, where the Message alert tone has changed . To save this change, press Options and then Save . Alternatively, press Back and you will be asked whether you want to Save? Press Yes
Go to phone's menu --> Settings --> Sounds & alerts --> Message alert. In the message alert menu look for the option to set a different ring tone. It may be like "Find sound" or similar. After its selection the phone will ask you to point to the file you want to set as message alert.
Note: the music file should be in .mp3 format and you cannot set more than one track at a time. If you want to use different track for every contact go to Contacts and edit the contact's preference to use a different track.
In the Settings menu, select Phone profiles and press.
You will be presented with a list of phone profiles for different situations and environments. The one you're currently using will be ticked. Highlight the one you want to use and press the Edit button at the bottom of the display.
You are taken into the profile settings. At the top of the list you'll notice three tab icons - these represent (from left to right), ringtone, message alert, and keypad sounds. You can switch between settings for these by tapping one of the tabs.
Tap the message alert tab (in the top centre of the display). A set of message alert settings appears. You can change the Message alert type, if you want to, by tapping the panel and choosing the appropriate option.
To change the Message alert tone, press the Message alert tone panel. In the menu that appears, press Change. Then choose one of the options Use effect tone (one of Samsung's pre-loaded effects) or Use my alert tone (allowing you to choose from your own sounds). In this example, press Use my alert tone.
Press the Sounds option (Figure 16). In a similar way as changing ringtones (above) you now have the choice of choosing from your Music files,Ringtones that are loaded onto the phone, or My voice clips. In our example, we'll again choose a file from our Music folder.
Press the Music option. A list of suitable MP3 tracks appears. Tap the one you want in order to highlight it.
Press Options, then tap on the Select menu option to install it as your message alert.
You are now taken back to the Normal profile settings, where the Message alert tone has changed. To save this change, press Options and then Save. Alternatively, press Back and you will be asked whether you want to Save? Press Yes.
Go to Profiles, and choose a Customized Profile. Rename it to whatever you prefer. In this profile you can select your ring tone, message tone, volume, etc. I only had to do this once, and everything worked perfectly!
It took me many hours to work it out!
- Menu. - Settings. - Phone settings. - Phone profiles. - Select (highlight) the one you want &. - Select OPTIONS with the left soft key. - Click Edit (1). - Use the directional key (right) to highlight the New Messages. - Scroll down to Message Alert. - Left soft key OPTIONS & select edit (as above). - Then click the directional key until you hit either Downloaded Music or sounds (depending on where you stored your sound file). - Select your file. - Left soft key & select SAVE. - Then that's it, done!
