This tiller does not belong to me.... but was told when this tiller was put away last fall they had difficulty shifting the transmission from forward to reverse to neutral and so on. When I got it out this spring I have discovered that the transmission is now stuck in the neutral position. Could the shifting fork be stuck on the shaft? Is this a common problem for these tillers?
Possibly just linkage problem.
Have you checked the gearbox for lubricant? If there is none could be really bad news. If you have time would disassemble the gearbox and try to locate the problem. Then go to one of the sites on the internet that gives the parts breakdown one is m-and-d.com To see what it would cost to fix. If it is internal problem and you take to small engine shop you could almost buy a new one for the cost of repair.

I removed the linkage and tried shift it with cresent wrench. Seems to be internal.
No, I haven't checked the gearcase oil yet. I was hoping there was a common problem with these transmissions that someone knew about. Well it looks like I have some investigating to do.
gear stick will not move into neutral, i.e. stuck in gear
