Transmission is stuck in neural.

This tiller does not belong to me.... but was told when this tiller was put away last fall they had difficulty shifting the transmission from forward to reverse to neutral and so on. When I got it out this spring I have discovered that the transmission is now stuck in the neutral position. Could the shifting fork be stuck on the shaft? Is this a common problem for these tillers?

I removed the linkage and tried shift it with cresent wrench. Seems to be internal.

No, I haven't checked the gearcase oil yet. I was hoping there was a common problem with these transmissions that someone knew about. Well it looks like I have some investigating to do.

Possibly just linkage problem.

Have you checked the gearbox for lubricant? If there is none could be really bad news. If you have time would disassemble the gearbox and try to locate the problem. Then go to one of the sites on the internet that gives the parts breakdown one is m-and-d.com To see what it would cost to fix. If it is internal problem and you take to small engine shop you could almost buy a new one for the cost of repair.

Tiller runs great just having a problem with the tines turning plowed my garden last week and for some reason the tines quit turning like its locked or something please help me

Two possibilities. Something has jammed the tines.
Pull the spark plug wire off and tuck it away someplace so as not to touch the plug.
Tip the tiller up and examine the tines for obstacle such as a rock. If there is nothing jammed try to turn the tines by hand. If the they turn freely you most likely broke a shear pin that secures the tines to the axle.Clean the axle and tines and examine very closely for the pin.
If sheared ( broken) you will need to drive the broken piece out and replace the pin.
There may also be a problem in the transmission case. You would need to remove the tines and case to open it

Which stands for on and which stands for off? I am having great difficulty starting my tiller and must know this before I can go any further.

The sign for off is a zero, on is a number 1. If its been out of action for a while then all fuel needs draining and may need the carb stripped and cleaned of evaporated residue.

Gear shifter won't shift into reverse or park

When you "muscled it into neural" you broke the shifter. Most likely it will take a replacement shifter to repair.

I have a 88 chevy celebrity wagon, 2.6. What is happening is when I go to start the car,it will start but then stall right away. If it starts and you can catch the gas quick enough it will run. It is...

First you add octane booster to two year old gas. It is too late for stabil. Find the idle air solenoid and take it out and clean it with throttle body cleaner. Try not to push it in or out. Reinstall and turn on key for I min. and off for 1 min. then start the car.

The tiller wont engage the transmission but it clicks into the FORWARD, NUTRAL,REVERSE

You may have a chain driven transmission and the chain is broke inside the transmission. Get your model number off the tiller and go to www. searspartdirect.com. Put your model number in and look at the IPL to see if they break the transmission down in several parts. If not you may have to replace the whole transmission.

Squeeze throttle engine doesn't increase/tines don't turn

Most likely the throttle shaft on your carb is stuck from residual fuel. Follow your throttle cable down to your carburetor and see if the shaft is moving when you press the trigger on the handle. If not, try moving it by hand and see if it loosens up. If not you may have to take off the air filter cover and spray some carb cleaner in the throat of the carb while moving the shaft back and forth until it loosens up. That should work for you.
