Check your BIOS and ensure your installed amount of RAM is correct. If not you have a bad stick. If it is correct, and you have more than a single stick of memory installed, try removing one and restarting, then the other. If there is a bad stick and it's not obvious this will help you find it. Also check your processor status while you're in the BIOS.

SOURCE: Windows Won't Load

Same thing happened to me. Looks like your windows install is damaged. My advice, do a fresh install of windows. You won't lose any of your files, but you will have to reinstall most of your software and drivers.

SOURCE: System shut down during update installation now

you need to run a nifty little program called Spinrite on your laptop. You can download it via BitTorrent2.gif HERE

you will need to use a program to burn the ISO image2.gif onto disk and make it bootable. I use PowerISO . It is very easy and straight forward. You can download it HERE (use the name: Dr.Upload
serial: SKSIP-7AIX1-8YWEZ-U197K-T88IE ) to remove restrictions.

Open the iso file2.gif using PowerISO. Now we have to make it a bootable disk image2.gif. Spinrite comes with FREEDOS instaled, but most laptops don't like using it.
Follow directions here on making a bootable image.

after burning your disk boot your system up with the cd. when you get to a prompt , ie C:\\ you will need to change it to your default cd drive mine is E:
after changing the drive letter type SPINRITE
the program will start - follow onscreen directions and change scan level to 5. after program finishes reboot after removing disk.
should run like a new pc with no Loss of information.

Computer boots up to a black screen

hmm this is a clear case of damaged operation system ..probably you are missing some files or the video card has settings teh system does not supports them ..In eh last case windows logo will appear but the screen will be black in the moment it starts windows..
second..case it is a damage in windows files..and need reinstalled from scratch ..If you have a recovery partition or disk ..use it to boot from it and reinstall the os..if you do not have one you need a windows boot-able disk ..
the solution is to borrow one ..or make one yourself or buy a new one ..
Another thing to keep in mind is to get all drivers for the operation system you intend to install before doing it ..cause usually if windows does not load the LAN card you have no way to connect it to install the others..
depending of the operation system you want to install ..you can download an image from one of the torrent sites..and burn it to a disk using a image burner ..after that insert the disk and restart ..press f12 to start boot menu ..select to boot from DVD and enter will ask to confirm the boot with any key ..and go on with loading files..After loading first files will ask to accept the agreement and select a partition for the installation ..format the partition in ntfs quick .and continue ..it will restart a few times during the installation process ..do not press to boot from CD again .. and let it continue with the setup ..
If you need the disk ..let me know and I will try to guide you in making one ..

Sony vaio lcd screen turns black after start up

graphics card software fault. start the pc and get it to bring up the start menu where you see options such as safe mode, usually holding down f8 when you boot. (If all else fails whilst windows is loading hold down your power button to power it off then it should automatically ask you what to do.)
select restore to known good configuration.
If that does cure it boot to safe mode and do a system roll back (restore) to an earlier time when it did work
If that doesn't work, also in safe mode you can try removing the graphics card drivers and forcing it to load windows default drivers. then update from the website.
If nothing works, not even safe mode then you'll need to use your windows disks or recovery discs. If you fear losing everything then try downloading and burning a ubuntu live disc on another PC and use that to load your laptop then copy and back up your files to another drive or usb stick using the ubuntu operating system.

I have the same problem as this one does. my monitor goes black when windows boots. I can see the computer load at fist, then when the window icon shows. the screen goes black. WHY ?? im thinking there is...

you can try Fn + F8 and see if the display was toggled for external (Wait about 15 seconds before pressing a 2nd time) that is the keystroke from (LCD, External, LCD and External)
If no go, see if your system keeps video displayed in the safe mode (F8 at boot, select Safe mode from the boot menu)
you can also run diags on the LCD (Power button + D) or PSA diagnostics and see if the video stays on out of the operating system (Power +Fn)

Can you reload last known good configuration? Tap F8 as the computer boots up to pull up safe mode, etc options. If that doesn't work, you're SOL. The fact you cannot even boot up safe mode pretty much means you're hosed. If you have files on that hard drive, I would recommend pulling the hard drive out and getting the data off w/ a hard drive adapter. Once all files saved, I would wipe the drive and reinstall the operating system. Sorry. Situations like that ****.

The Windows xp fails to load kernel library, after booting and it couses some problem in loading files. what can I do?

First, I'd go to Microsoft update, up date to service pack 3.

(Start - All programes - Windows update)

If you can't or that doesn't work.

While booting, after the post report (Beep) press the F8 key several times. You should get a black screen white writing offering several boot options. Choose the "safe mode".

This will load a stripped out version of windows. Once loaded, Click on

Start - All programmes - Accessories - System tools - System restore - Choose a restore date prior to when your problems started. Just choose a date, hit ok then wait.

If that doesn't work, you're probably looking at a re-installation of windows. That cleans every thing off you computer so back up any data files you need to keep first.

My Window Xp on my mini note book a file has been corrupt file missing so it wont load windows

Try booting in safe mode.

Switch on you note book, while its booting press F8 several times, this should bring up a black screen with several boot options, choose "Safe Mode"

This will load windows shell programme.

Once loaded click on Start - All Programmes - Accessories - System tools - System Restore.

Select a restore point prior to when you first had a problem and let your pc do the rest.

If you can't do a system restore for what ever reason, you'll have to do a system recovery, this tends to dump your data.

Windows does not displayed after boot, just "black screen".

Next time that you start windows, hold down the left shift key, that should prevent programs from starting automatically as windows boots. If the computer then operates normally, then take a look at your startup list (use msconfig). Otherwise...

Try starting in safe mode, see if problem still exists. If it does, something is going on with core windows system files. If not, then a program (which automatically starts) or driver is causing the issue.

In either case, you can also start in safe mode, but a version that prompts you if you want to load every file (and there are a bunch of them). The last file that is loaded before problem appears is usually the culprit.

Good Luck.

BOOTMGR is compressed press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

Insert Microsoft Windows Vista Installation Disc.
Press any key when it says "Press any key to boot from CD".

After that you should see "Windows is loading files..."
KEEP pressing F8/F9(can't rmb which, just press both alternately) while
the progress bar loads..... Dun let go until you reach "Advanced boot
information" where you should see Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking,
Last Good known configuration etc...., just select Safe Mode with
Networking(or Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Command Prompt) and press Enter.
Wait for the files to load and there should be "Safe Mode" on 4 corners
of your monitor.

Just be patient and wait. A windows would soon pop up and says "Install
Windows". Don't worry, click next. Now at the bottom of this window, you
should see "Repair Windows". Click on it, and there are several options
available here. For this case, which is "Bootmgr is compressed.", CHOOSE
THE LAST OPTION - "Start Command Prompt".

OK type these things (Only works if you have Firefox, can't think of
anything else) below and follow closely:

When Command Prompt is started, type the command below first to ensure
that C Drive or whichever drive which contains all your system files is
selected:

LOOK FIRST!

X:System> (The string on the left is what appears on command prompt,
may differ on other computers.)

Now TYPE "C:" or "D:", depending on the hard disc volume you are
using...

SO IT BECOMES:

X:System>C:

PRESS ENTER
THE RETURNING COMMAND WOULD BE:

C:>

If you get this, very good, continue with the steps below.

Now Type:

CDProgram FilesMozilla Firefox

PRESS ENTER

THE RESULT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS:

C:>CDProgram FilesMozilla Firefox (Press ENTER)

C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox (<<<<< Result)

Now type "firefox".

wait for Firefox to launch now.
it doesn't matter if no internet is available.

Now on firefox, go to File > Open File

Double click "My Computer", and you should see your hard disc there,
but don't double click on the hard disc. Instead, click once on the hard
disc, RIGHT CLICK, and choose properties. AT THE BOTTOM, UNTICK, I
REPEAT, UNTICK THE BOX SAYING "Compress this drive to save space
etc....". NOW CLICK APPLY, WAIT, AND I MEAN WAIT PATIENTLY OK? AFTER
THAT CLICK ON "OK".

AFTER PRESSING OK, DO A QUICK LOOK AT YOUR DRIVE BY DOUBLE-CLICKING IT
NOW. IF ANY FILES/FOLDERS ARE BLUE IN COLOUR INSTEAD OF BLACK,
RIGHT-CLICK IT, CHOOSE PROPERTIES, CLICK ADVANCED BUTTON (Beside
Read-Only Box and Archive Box), UNTICK, I REPEAT, UNTICK the 3RD BOX
Which says "Compress contents to save disc space".

Click OK, Apply and close the folder/file properties.

Now close the box opened by firefox, close firefox, close command
prompt AND AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE FIRST WINDOW WHICH POPS UP
MENTIONED EARLIER, PRESS RESTART.

Your computer should be able to start properly now smile.gif

for xp:

Boot Manager is compressed
If by accident having compressed the entire boot partition, then Vista will display the following error:
BOOTMGR is compressed. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Check points for fixing compressed boot-manager:
* Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and perform a “Startup Repair”.
* If the above doesn’t solve the problem then boot into WinRE again, but when selecting the Vista-installation, then press “Load Drivers” (Instead of “Next”) and use the mini Windows Explorer to right-click the boot-drive and deselect “Compress this Drive” and choose Apply to sub-folders and files.
* If that also fails then boot into WinRE again, and go to the “Command Prompt” and execute these commands:
o compact /U C:ootmgr
o compact /U C: tldr

My dell inspiron 1525 has a black screen with a white cursor showing

First, I want to know if you sees the Dell logo after turning on the laptop? If yes then this is no boot issue.
1. Immediately run the PSA. Make sure laptop is off. Press and hold down the Fn key, while holding down Fn key press the power button at the same time just once. Once the Dell screen loaded you can now let go of the Fn key. Check if the PSA will run short test for the LCD, RAM and HDD. When full color displays on the screen just press Y. PSA will continue. Just take note of any error code will appear on the screen such as 0141, 0142 and 0146 these are HDD failure errors which means HDD needs replacement. If the test says no errors found then proceed to step 2;
2. Try restarting the laptop once you see dell logo then keep tapping F8. Select last known good configuration. Press enter key. Just wait and check if laptop will load Windows. If not then, restart laptop keep tapping F8 try to select safe mode check if it will load Windows. If not then prepare the Windows OS disc the one came with your laptop.
3. While laptop is on insert the Windows OS disc. Restart the computer. On the Dell screen keep tapping on F12 to show boot menu. In the boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive. Press enter then keep tapping on space bar until it will say Windows loading files, please wait.
4. In the User Interface it will show you some options to select. Once the Install screen comes up look on the lower part select Repair Your Computer. If will ask you to do Startup Repair, please do start up repair. If fails try the System Restore. If fails then step 5;
5. If you have important files in your HDD then back up your files first. After backing up of files you can now install the Windows OS. Here is the process in installing the Windows OS. Insert the Windows OS disc, restart the laptop, keep tapping F12 on Dell screen, on boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive.Install the Windows OS. Just complete the installation. After the installation install the laptop drivers.

Black screen and windows won't load

It's possible that Windows got corrupted if you can enter the Setup page. Will you also try to boot up on Safe by pressing F8 during boot up. If Windows loads up on Safe mode, you may try System restore. If not, run a repair using the recovery disc of windows so you can recover all your files. If none of these resolved the issue, you have to do clean installation using the CD.
