LCD TV backlight going out after getting new graphics card.
Hi there. I upgraded my graphics card roughly two weeks ago. I went from a GeForce 6600 FX 128 mb to a GeForce 9500 GT. With the 6600 I used a DVI to HDMI cable to run my 32 inch LCD TV as a computer monitor. It worked without any problems for 6 months, however now with the new graphics card I'm having problems. Randomly while using the computer the backlight for the TV will turn off. When I unplug the TV from the computer though it goes back to normal, and while the backlight is off I can't change channels, go to the menu, or anything. I tried using a standard HDMI cable with the new card, but the problem persists. I thought perhaps the card was over-heating however upon reseting the computer it runs fine for a full day or so. I have the latest drivers for the card, so I'm uncertain of what it could be.
*Note, I did upgrade the power supply for the new card, I use a 650 Watt at 80% efficiency so I doubt the power supply is the issue*
It works fine with the old graphics card oddly enough. Also the new card, the GeForce 9500 GT, supports the LCD TV so it's not compatibility issues, I appreciate your time and hope you can help.It works fine with the old graphics card oddly enough. Go to this page: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Then, select GeForce 5 FX Series under "Product Series" Select GeForce FX 5500 under "Product" Select Your Operating System and Language, then click Search. Agree to the terms, then click Download Now, and your driver will begin to download!
This computer comes with a Nvidia FX5200 so this tells me that it can support any AGP8X Graphics Card.

You should already have a GeForce FX5200 so better than that is the 6600 and 6600GT.
hello jaymarque, hi, try reducing the resolution, if not you should upgrade your onboard RAM around to 1gigabyte ram, switch your processor to Dual core 2.0GHz and or upgrade/change your AGP to a ram up to 512mb
This is an older machine that has a 4x AGP port for graphics cards. The good news is that cards for this slot are cheap...usually in the 30-50 dollar range. The downside is that you wont get the greatest performance out of them. I would recommend going with a Geforce FX 5200.
When you install a new video card you must disable the onboard video card by going into the bios setup. Below I have listed the requirements of Second life game. e 531 does come with PCI-E slots so make sure you buy a VIDEO card with PCI-E Walmart sells some pretty decent priced Graphics cards. pretty much any pci-e card you buy new in walmart these days will be fine for this game.
PC Minimum System Recommendations:
* Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL
* Computer Processor: 1.6GHz Pentium 4 or Athlon 2000+ or better
* Computer Memory: 512MB or better
* Video/Graphics Card**: o nVidia GeForce FX 5600, GeForce 6600, or better o OR ATI Radeon 9600, X600, or better
try to use your graphic card on a different pc and use the same methond and check whats gonna happen after wards solution to this it`s either your mother board or ur graphic card
The card may be overheating and switching to lower DPI to save on the power consumption and heat. Try using a diagnostic utility to check the card temperature. Also, check the heatsink/fan to make sure that it is properly seated on the card.
It works fine with the old graphics card oddly enough. Also the new card, the GeForce 9500 GT, supports the LCD TV so it's not compatibility issues, I appreciate your time and hope you can help.
