SOURCE: 4 ohm speakers with 8 ohm receivers

Please check with the manual of your receiver whether it is capable of running 4 ohm speakers.

if yes, then please go ahead, you will not loose any Sound quality. Sound quality will depend a lot on the performace of the speaker as well as the frequency range it can deliver.

If no, please do not connect. Though, you might be able to play and listen to the music, but it will overload your receiver!!

If you are not sure, please let me know the brand and model of your receiver and I can check for you.

Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!

SOURCE: With my RX-V663 can I use presence speakers less than 8 ohms?

Basically you can use any speaker as long as you use the volume button wisely. Damage will only occur if you raise the volume level to the extremes. Bigger speakers should be no problem, if you want bi-amping, your speakers should support that as well.

SOURCE: can I mix 6 and 8 ohm speakers?

Most Yamaha HTR's are high current receivers so setting the receiver to 8 ohms and running the 6 ohm speakers shouldn't be a huge problem. I wouldn't crank the volume though if i were you but at a decent level you should be fine.

Y does my technics sug88 say low imp beside the a and b speakers

Because you've done something with the speaker connections that's too low impedance for the amp.

Amps need a certain level of resistance from the speakers otherwise there's a risk of the amp blowing itself up. Impedance is the name for resistance that varies with audio frequency. If the speakers you connected are any good, then there'll be label on the back telling you their impedance in Ohms.

When running a single set of speakers only then the amp would prefer an 8 Ohm load but it will accept a 4 Ohm load. If you plan to run speakers in both the A and B sockets, then both sets of speakers have to be 8 Ohms and no less. It also tells you this on the printing directly above the speaker sockets on the amp.

The amp is trying to protect itself from an overload situation where it would blow its output transistors and possibly kill your speakers too.

4-8 ohm output

it is load resistance. set the amplifier switch to the resistance ( X amount ohms) to match your speakers. Although running 4 ohm speakers at the 8 ohm setting is louder, it will hurt your amp
most home/semi pro speakers are 8 ohm, while car speakers are 4 ohm. If you are doing a multi speaker pa/intercom install use your formula to calculate total load is 2 8 ohm speakers in parallel are four ohms . express them as fractions and add the denominator ie:8/1 +8/1 = 8/2 or 4/1 or 4. now connect that in series (add the top numbers)with another 2 speakers in parallel and you get back to 8 ohm load. repeat the same process over and over and you can hook up to 32 speakers to the amp without needing the 70 volt tap. hope this helped.

Connecting a single 4 ohm speaker?

Gotta be careful here....the headphone output won't drive a speaker - if you already have all other speakers connected on the back as designed, you really don't have anywhere to connect a 4ohm speaker. The "front" speaker jacks have an "A" and a "B" section but they appear to be in parallel so you really shouldn't connect a 4ohm speaker to "B" for example if you already have speakers connected to "A". The combined impedance would be too low for the amp design.

What is speaker A low imp . how to use speaker B.thank.

The Low Impedance setting is for when you have even one speaker with <8-ohms nominal impedance so you can use bot speaker pairs together. You still need to have an effective total (parallel) impedance of 4-ohms minimum or there may be problems like blowing up the amps.

Press and hold the SPEAKERS A or B button until LOW IMP lights or goes out, as required.

Press either button to toggle that speaker pair on or off.

It's in the manual page 14, 22 and 25.

I have a budda superdrive 30 II amp and have a setting question. I made a 2-12 cabinet to hook to this amp. Each speaker is 4 ohms. They are wired to their own output jack. My amp has 2 outputs for...

You best rewire the cabinet to put the two speakers in series. Wire one speaker plus to minus of the other and bring the other lead, one from each speaker to your jack on the cabinet. The amp output impedance is what is set on the switch... for two 8 ohm speakers you would use both jacks to the two speakers BUT ssince you have 4 ohm speakers the ONLY option is for two in series and set the switch to 8 ohms. The amp is ONLY 30 Watts so don't expect too much sound output... You should get a nice CLEAN sound at a reasonable level. If you drive the amp too hard it will clip and you will get garbage.

Inpedance button ???

The impedance button allows you to toggle between 4 and 8 ohm speakers. By default, most receivers are designed to run an 8 ohm load as this is the most common draw from home speakers. However, a few may exist that require a 4 ohm demand (many Bose for example). Or, if you have two 8 ohm speakers connected to a single speaker terminal, the impedance will drop to 4 ohms for that channel. In your case, you most likely have a regular pair of speakers with an 8 ohm impedance. In this case, the button out (8 ohm) will do the trick.

Max. wattage for speakers w/ Technics Receiver SA-GX100?

I too have a Technics SA-GX100 and it's rated at 2 x 40W @ 8 Ohms. I have the Technics SB-2840 floor model speakers hooked to it, which are rated at 200W Music Input - 8 ohms. It sounds very nice just to be a 40W receiver.
