SOURCE: BATTERY CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED

Generally this is an indication that the battery has failed. The normal life span of a PC battery is 300 to 500 recharge cycles (Roughly 12 to 18 months) so the most likely answer is buy a new battery since this one is already out of warranty

SOURCE: my dell Inspiron 1501 unable to charge the battery.

How old is your laptop?
If you have had your laptop a while now it is very possible that the battery on your laptop is becoming weak, or is about to go out.

The first thing i would do is remove the battery.. Make sure that their i'snt anything like dust, animal hair, ect, that would be keeping the battery and the laptop from getting a good connection.

The 2nd thing is their really isn't away to test the quality of a laptop battery for someone at home unless they have two of the same laptop. My only other suggestion to ya b4 you go out and buy a new battery is if you can find a good computer shop in your town, just go into it and see if they have any batteries that will work in your laptop and see if you can try it in it and see if you get the same error, or if they can try putting your battery in thier laptop and see if its bad.

Other options espically if you dont care if its used you might beable to find a replacment battery at.

Ebay.com just search for the item your looking for, by Band of the computer. the battery sometimes will have a model # on it also. Just take it out and see if their is any stickers on it.

Other good website is
Egghead.com

if you decide to try to find a cheaper solution to finding a replacement battery if it is needed.

Please rate me, and or leave feedback. Ty
and Good Luck.

Dell n5010 not chargering

Hi Anonymous,

Request you to try following the below steps which might help:
(1)Check if the AC Adaptor gets detected in BIOS (F2 at startup).
(2)Check on the status bar for any messages like "Plugged in charging", "Not connected", etc.
(3)Try using a known good AC Adaptor and check if that helps.

    Thanks and Regards.

Cannot identify Battery When I turn on my Dell studio 1735 laptop.

Is not a problem with windows as the error is POST (pre windows) it could be a faulty battery or what you said. Try default the bios, failing that upgrade the firmware (from dell website)

Cannot identify battery

This looks to be a long standing known problem for some models of Dell laptops with no magic cure that fixes all occurrences.
The remedies that have been suggested include:
1. Updating the BIOS (which you mention doing already)
2. Downgrading the BIOS to the lowest level - presumably to bypass changes that were introduced in later versions to give 'intelligence' to the battery and charging circuits and possibly prevent battery fires!
3. Having Dell replace the motherboard - assuming you have warranty cover or are prepared to pay to get this done.
4. Installing a new batter.
5. Buying a new charger of the correct capacity needed to charge the installed battery.
There is one further solution that is implicit but not mentioned - replace the laptop!

I am getting an error msg Invalid AC adapter on my Dell Inspiration 1525 laptop. For Bootup. The ac adapter indicator light is on. The battery does not seem to be charging it is at 82 %. And seem to be...

If the system is not identifying the AC adapter, then the battery charger circuit is disabled. So replacing the battery will not resolve the issue. If the sensing pin in the center of the power connection to the portable is bent or broken, then replace the adapter. Also try a known good Dell Branded AC adapter, if issue still occurs, it will require an motherboard.

We have a Dell latitude d600 and the old battery had gone bad some time ago, would charge, but lasted maybe 10 minutes. We bought a new OEM Dell battery for it, and put it on charge all night. The charge...

Sounds like you should try a regular Dell factory refurbished battery. Or if not that, try a battery that you knows works for sure. Then try charging it up, if it doesn't charge up then you know its a situation with the motherboard.

The battery does not charge anymore ,the bios setting says idle

remove battery and reseat.
Use VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter) and phsically check to make sure the power supply is putting out advertised voltage (typically 19-20 VDC)
Make sure power supply recepticle (the female part on the laptop itself) has not been broken or reamed out such that contact is not being made.

When you plug power supply in, does the charging light on the laptop come on?

Power issue

Is the new power supply a Dell. Some aftermarket power supplies, especially Targus, will not charge the battery in a Dell. If it is a Dell supply, then it's one of two things. 1- the battery is shot and needs replacing. 2- the power management chip on the motherboard is shot and the motherboard needs replacing. If the battery light is flashing orange then the battery is shot. If the battery light is green, then go into the power settings and see if the machine shows that it is charging. If it doesn't show that it's charging then it's the pm chip.

Not charging

Make sure you are using a 4.62A Power Supply (90watt) some of the knock-offs are only 65w (3.34 A). And you will never have enough current to charge the battery.

It will only run the laptop, but not charge.

The mobo sounds like it is good, if you had a power issue, you would have orange lights or blinking, and it would not come on at all with any power supply.
