OK ya have to reinstall your Driver for your external disk. Get the name and/or manufacturer of your External Drive... Google the name + the words ...driver download. Download the software and install, then plug your external drive back in and it should be detected and you should be able to use it again.

Emachine 3653 factory restore

You can use the Restore CD that came with the computer. The eMachines restore disk sets your PC back to factory settings with the original operating system and programs that were shipped with the computer. Doing so resolves many problems that can arise from long-term computer use, viruses, or the operating system slowing down.

1. To do a factory restore insert the restore CD then reboot the computer. When prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

2. Select the option to "Reformat the drive to factory settings."

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system and original software that came with your computer.

4. Once the Restore finishes, you can re-install all the programs that you added to the computer as well as restore your files.

Reminder: Reformatting your computer erases all of your installed programs, personal documents, pictures and music. If you have the ability to, back up all of your personal data using a removable flash drive, external hard drive or DVDs before doing a Factory Restore.

I need to restart the netbook to go back to factory settings

You will need the following items:

1. External USB DvD Drive; Can be purchased from local retailer
2. Your Asus Eee PC Restore Disk; This should have come with your netbook. You can order an additional disk by calling Asus, 888- 678-3688.

3. Once you have the above items be sure all your photos, music, documents, data etc. are backed up to a flash drive or dvd. A factory restore of an Asus netbook will ERASE all personal data on the hard drive. You must back up the data on another device in order to preserve it!

4. Connect the external DvD drive to your netbook and insert the Asus Eee PC Restore Disk.

5. Restart the netbook and boot from CD (usually the default key to boot from CD is F12).

6. Follow the onscreen instructions that are on the restore disk.

7. After installation of all software, update windows and reinstall all your necessary software.

8. Enjoy!

Drive has changed from D to G and will not record

Removable devices that act as readers, storage, or burners normally are given random letters starting with the lowest letter available. It sounds like your computer is not recognizing the drive.

Solution:

Go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. From this point, Id like you to find your Drive. Should be under the "Other Devices" area, "Disk Drives", or "Floppy Disk Drives". Once found, please right click and go to Properties. I want you to "Uninstall" the driver for your floppy. After this, delete anything that came with the software(Not your personals, of course). Finally, reinstall your drivers for the drive and see if that helped. please message me if it does not.

My system crashed. Won't reinstall windows

Do you need anything that is stored on the crashed hard drive? If so, you need to get an adapter for the drive and connect it to a desktop pc as the 'd:' disk. then copy any files you can access that you need saved.
Re-install the drive into the laptop, use "FDISK /MBR" from a floppy drive or a USB drive set up as a boot disk to re-partition it, and install the master boot record, and then boot the CDrom to install your operating system afresh.
The error message you are getting is caused by the 'restore' program trying to use the C: disk programs, and they are not there. I think you may have a bad hard drive, as usually the programs will be found.
You need to find out if the disk is really really bad or just needs to be re-formatted. Follow the above steps to determine if you need a new drive or not.

I want to reinstall my Y computer but the restore CD does not seem to work. So i tried a new XP cd, but that too could not work as it does not see the SATA hard disk installed. The Bios on the Tecra M9...

Hi, your Windows XP install CD doesn't have SATA drivers for the hard drive included, so it's not able to address your hard drive. You can't disable SATA in the BIOS to make it work since your hard drive is still SATA. You'll need to get a 3.5" floppy disk and drive if your laptop doesn't have one. They make external 3.5" USB floppy drives that will work.

1. download the SATA drivers for your laptop (iastor.sys and inf)
2. copy the drivers to your floppy disk (about 6-7 files)
3. plug the floppy drive into your laptop
4. boot to the Windows XP CD
5. as soon as the installation starts, it asks you to "Press F6 to specify RAID or controller drivers" - Press F6 now
6. When setup asks for it, point it to the floppy drive
7. Installation will continue and find your SATA hard drive

Ta-da! Rock on with your bad self.

How to install new HD w/o a floppy?

Hi,
Your computer should be able to handle either the 120 or 150 replacement drive. Most drives today come ready to load. Your Dell installation disk would be the best bet to install everything on the new drive. The restore disk will look for existing software and not find it. The other thing you might want to try is once you get the new disk up and running, change the pin setting on the second drive to be a slave drive and your new drive to a master with slave, and try to recover your data. If you don't have the dell install disk, a copy of Windows will also do the trick. No you don't need a floppy unless you plan on reformatting the new drive.

Hope this helps

My computer is giving the message ntldr is missing. I don't have a recovery disc to fix the problem. What can i do?

First, check to see if you have a floppy disk in your floppy drive. if there is a nonbootable disk there, your system will give you this message.

It will also do this if the cables in your machine are loose (Some folks put their computer by their feet and can bump it loose on occassion) and the hard drive you normally boot to is not being recognised by the computer. Open it up and make sure all cables are connected to your hard drive and that they are all snug. Then try to boot up again.

To reinstall the Operating system, or recover one whose ntldr file is actually corrupt, you can use any Operating system disk of the same version as the one you have installed. Try borrowing one from a friend and run the Install during boot. be sure to look for the repair option that comes up fairly soon in the install process. A repair will replace the corrupted files and restore your system to good working order. If you find you are having trouble getting through this process, support.microsoft.com will have a walk-through for your to use. simply search for your operating system and use the words system restore, or OS repair
