Scanner lazer does not come on

According to the directions: Press B - bottom left button,to go into Alarm Mode. Press D - upper right button - to activate the alarm and press again to activate the Chime, which shows on bottom left as a bell. To activate these press D. To DEACTIVATE them press D again. Press B 3 times to return to Time Telling Mode. It took a few tries, but D and B are the keys to stopping that annoying chime!

1 day my parents did not power off my printer, they simply unplugged it so they can plug it into another room that had a phone jack so that they could fax something to the bank. ( too lazy to get a extra phone cable or just drive to the bank.. ) well anyways , they moved it, and plugged the power cable in.. as soon as they hit the power button, it went... CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK... for about 1 minute.
it would let them auto print a blank sheet of paper.
but it would not let them access the fax or scan options.
the printer said read the manual ect...
its an old printer.. no manual...
But.. what i noticed is that.. this click noise was not really printer related. what it was ... was actually the scanner !
If you open the scanner door ( the top part of the printer)
you will notice that on the right side.. when you hear the clicking
its actually the scanners light wheel machine bounceing back n forth on the right side. about 1 minute after you open the door, then the light turns off and the scanner lazer wheel thing moves to the left. I noticed that on the right side.. there was some white plastic dust... you will notice how there is a line going across that kind of looks like a coat zipper with the plastic tringle's / line .
well 1 of the triangle's broke... so its like a broken coat zipper.. and the printer can't get the scanner lazer thing to the right side of the printer, so it kind of gets stuck... so basically... you need a new printer :( or if you are a plastic specialist.. or can find some type of plastic replacement, you would be able to melt some plastic or glue something idk..
well anyways, i just wanted to share my store.
the clicking on my printer came from the scanner lazer light not being able to reach the right side of the printer box b/c of a missing tringle plastic thing on a plastic line.

like i said, you could try to re-melt some plastic their, but it wouldn't last all that long... metal would work, just has to stay in the shape of the other small triangles.
( best option is to just buy a new printer )
you can get them for like 40 to 50 $ at wal-mart and they normally even come with ink...

I had exactly the same problem with my OfficeJet 6110 as reported above (i.e. the scan head not knowing where the end-stop is). This is how to fix it (this method worked for me) 1) Lift up the scanner/copier hinged lid. Around the edge of the scan glass are 4 Torx screws. Undo all four screws. 2) Carefully prise the control panel faceplate off. The buttons underneath are on a single panel. Slide this to the left and lift off. 3) Jiggle the lid of the scanner to get it off the main body of the printer. 4) Locate the scan engine motor (top right corner) and remove the two motor retaining screws (one on the left of the motor, the other on the right). 5) Lift out the entire mechanism (rod, drive belt, scan head) and turn over. 6) Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrored areas of the scan head. Also clean the scan lamp on the top of the scan head. Clean the tray inside the scanner (where the scan head travels back and forth). Also clean the inside and outside of the scanner glass pane itself. 7) Refit all parts, using the technique described above, in reverse order. 8) Switch on printer. It should now work OK. Turn ignition on, then hold down right trip button and keep it held down whilst turning ignition off then on. Release right trip button and then turn left trip button (clock set) to the right and release. turn ignition off. This

There is a lock/light key at bottom left hand corner of buttons hold that down until it beeps and the buttons should be unlocked

open the OTL program.

go to 1 - Test Apps
go to 6 - Next Page
go to 1 - Auto Wedge On

do the tests now ;)

The scanner rail (silver round bar running width if printer that head with ribbon runs on) can get dry making head stop, lube with light machine oil.

Canalso be from a faulty ribbon, the ribbon is driven when head moves and if riibon gets stuck head stops toooooo, remove ribbon and ensure you can turn it by hand easierly, replace ribbon...
