Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

SOURCE: acer travelmate 292elcI problem starting

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems. When this happens it usually suggests that the CPU/system board has failed. If the laptop is still under warranty I would suggest taking it back because this is something that will be covered and they should be able to fix it or replace the laptop itself. If not you may have to pay to have the system board/CPU replaced. Good luck and hope this helps. Si :)

SOURCE: Blank screen

Quite possible that the machine is defaulting to external display only. Check your BIOS for this and try any function keys/switches that are available.

SOURCE: blk screen when trying to start up after pulling

Hook up just the AC Adapter to the laptop with the battery out and see if the video comes back by turning on the laptop.

If it doesn't then take out the memory and reseat each memory stick one at a time in each slot one at a time.

Try turning on the laptop after each stick reinsertion and see if you get video back.

If you don't then the last two things to try would be to take out the hard drive and the dvd drive.

After this if you turn it on and still don't get video then that means the motherboard is bad.

If nothing shows up, try another cable and maybe even try in a different PC.

Laptop won'y start up has non-system disk or disk error

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Computer won't boot

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

I was given an emachine T2742, I turned it on and it worked for a little while and then went off by itself. I can hear and see the fan running. It will not come on but will continue to try to start. ...

After running can you feel any heat around the CPU heatsink? Does the CPU fan run at all?
Is it trying to restart and then looping back to reboot?

Try to access the Bios (press Del as soon as it switches on) see if you can get to the bios screen, see how long it will stay in the Bios screen before switching off or rebooting. If the bios has a hardware monitor, see what the temp of the CPU is. 30 degrees to 40 degrees is normal

Then switch off, unplug the Optical drives, the hard drive and floppy drive in turn, try to reboot and see if it is stable with just the hard drive installed.

IF the CPU heatsink remains cool after all that, the issue is with a dead CPU or a blown component on the motherbiard

Compaq e500 boot up problem

If it were my laptop here is what I would do: 1. Install a new hard drive. 2. Install the operating system. 3. After an anti-virus program was installed and updated, I would connect the old hard drive to the laptop using one of those external USB hard drive adapter cables. 4. If the old drive proves to be readable, copy documents/photos/bookmarks to the new hard drive. Hope this helps.
