When i turn on my sidekick lx a screen comes on with a big red x and blue text saying that my phone has crashed

well it happens some time, if you want to format the memory card, the best way is to
take your memory card out of the phone
put it in all-in-one card reader
and format through computer
be sure you selete "FAT" option not "FAT 32" when format via computer.
put the card back.

if you hook it up with a usb cable it will either show up as a phone or a usb storage device. You can then try using a file manager or my computer (assuming windows here) to look at the phone. It should apepar just like a small flash drive or hard drive. You should then just be able to copy off the files and svae to your pc.
If it appears as a phone then it may be a lot more limited as to what you can see if anything. Usually this requires special software to be run on the pc which then makes the phone look like a flash drive device. Unfortunetly the software is not cheap. What you may want to do is contact any local cell phone stores and see if they can or would copy the stuff off for you if this is the case.
