1995 Honda VF 750 C Magna bike all of a sudden lost all electrical while riding

I've checked the main fuse and it was fine. There are no lights of any kind working. I'm at a loss as to what to check next.

SOURCE: headlight won't work; all others do

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, suggested checks using a testlight (preferably, rather than a voltmeter) with the ignition switch ON:

  • +12 on either the white or the blue wire from the headlight dimmer switch to the headlight bulb/socket while engaging LO/HI switch;
  • if no +12, check voltage on blue/white going to the dimmer coming from the start button switch;
  • if no +12, check black/red wire coming from the 10A fuse in the fusebox going to the start button switch.
  • if +12 on the black/red but no +12 on the blue/white, faulty starter switch.
Not to confuse you, the starter switch has an internal mechanism that switches off the headlight when starting. This is to ensure that the starter motor gets all the power from the battery.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.

SOURCE: i was out riding yesterday when all of a sudden my

the regulator only keeps the voltage regulated to about 13v charge for the battery no matter what speed you ride..if the regulator did not work correctly you might start to burn out light bulbs. So when you put in the new regulator make sure your battery is at least at 12.3v minimum if not you will have to push start it and ride it for about 15 minutes on an open highway to charge the battery back up to at least 12.6v-12.7v...13v is perfect. (if none of your other fuses blew then all other electrics should work), so i would double check all of your fuses just to make sure.
