Rotor cap on my 2000 dodge durango stuck and will not budge.
I have tried tapping it with a hammer and tried to pry it up and it will not budge. I dont want to break anything, so does anyone have a safe and fast trick to remove the rotor cap?

they get stuck on there really good, i have a 2000 durango, and i had tu use a scredriver, and hammer around it, it was so stuck by the time i got it off of there, i had ro replace the pan it was so bent around the lip.... you could use a screwdriver and hammer between the pan and engine, try to barely tap it the screwdriver between them, all the way around the pan.. hope you have better luck than i did..
Sounds like you are talking about the bearing grease/dust cap on the hub. There are special pliers made to remove them but if a pair of cap pliers is not available to you you can use a sharpened flathead screwdriver or a flat chisel and a hammer to pop them free. You will notice a small lip on the cap where it meets the rotor. You will need to place the edge of the chisel there and GENTLY tap it to wedge it out from the rotor. Slowly tap the chisel in the gap and pry the cap out. Work your way around the cap prying it out evenly and be careful not to distort the cap. When you replace the cap you can just tap it back into place with a hammer. Again tap gently as not to distort the cap's shape. No sealant or anything is needed.
Is the caliper off? or at least swung away from the rotor. The only other thing holding the rotor to the hub is 2 small phillips head screws. If it still does not come off it is binding at the centre on the hub. Be careful of heating the hub as this may damage the wheel bearing. WD40 on the centre portion of the rotor along with hammering around the outer rim of the rotor may release it. Rotate the rotor as you tap on the edge. If the rotor is due for replacement anyway you can hammer away.
There might be a start washer on one of the wheel studs that hold the rotor in place, If not. A good hit from a hammer will break the rotor free from the wheel hub, chances are there being held on by corrosion. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
install the wheel back onto vehicle, and use the tire/wheel as leverage to work the rotor loose! good luck, u can try heating the rotor, but is dangerous to bearing and abs parts......marty
You can try liquid wrench or PB Blaster sprayed on the hub and a bigger hammer. It will just take brute force to get it off. For future endeavors, put anti-seize compound on the hub before installing the rotors.
can't remove them from axle, the brake rotors are resurfaced by a portable machine that rolls up under the truck to get to the rotors, axle and rotor are one piece!
