I think the best thing you could do is to Get all the drivers http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5670.html ready. After that, reinstall a fresh copy of OS and install the drivers again.

I have an Acer Aspie 5571 AWXMI Lap Top. Off late now every time I open the ''orbicam'' it says ''the camera is use by another application'' but there is really no other application which is usng the cam.

1. remove the installed OrbiCam application and reboot if required;
2. install the new driver (preferably with the “driver update” wizard from Device Manager)
3. update the Orbicam application 1.0.0.13

This worked for me..
Un-installed the drivers and utilities for the camera.
Went here .. http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html
downloaded and installed the Bison 6.96.0.12a driver. (using the right click as mentioned by TimC).
Tested working fine with C:\Windows\BisonXXX …now just to get it working with messenger and Logitech QuickCAM 10.5 for Vista…I’ll keep you posted.
Cheers

For those still wondering how to get your Acer OrbiCam - Logitech to work, I have searched the world over with far too many times failing to get my Aspire 5670 to recognize and work with its built-in webcam. But recently I was fortunate enough to finally find out that installing the latest drivers didn’t work at all whereas a particular old one worked well both on XP and Vista OS.

You should go to this link:
http://www.driverstock.com/Acer-Aspi...131/index.html

Download the zip file then save all contents in a folder that you will browse to use later.

Do not use the setup.exe from that folder. It won’t work… Just go to Device Manager and Uninstall your current driver of Acer OrbiCam. Then click, Update Driver, and point to the folder of those unzip files. Let it install then restart your computer.

When the computer restarts go to Skype or any communication/camera software you’re using and set the video camera. Voila, this time you will see the video coming on to the screen after about 10-15 seconds of black screen.

I have to thank that site for the download.

Last but not least, please remember that this one driver (version 9.4.0.1120) works very well on both XP and Vista… You don’t need to update it to any other higher version!

As for other Acer Aspire models, just check other pages from that website… I have no way of knowing since I only have my model. But I think you will be able to make use of your OrbiCam once again.

Best of Luck and Enjoy Video Chatting!

Numo

PS I think if you get only that driver file (version 9.4.0.1120) from the link after unzipping, please see whether putting only that driver in a new folder and install in Device Manager will get your camera to work too. If so, it will be nice for you to just upload that driver file and paste your link here so that others can just download this file and not all others from the link above.

Check out this link below, it IS a common problem

My Acer Orbicam hardware is not functioning properly and because of this my laptop crashes and reboots. I've uninstalled/installed the software several times and that just doesn't work, is there any way i...

I think that you upgraded or downgraded from vista to xp ..and do not have the proper driver for it ..this is why it makes this ...anyway ..if you use an external one ..and do not need it ...you just look for it in the device manager...and uninstall it ..or disable it...
to do so ...just right click on the my computer icon ...properties ...than choose the hardware button ..than device manager ...
locate the camera and disable it ..you can also remove the driver from the add /remove hardware on the control panel...
Good luck ...and dont forget to rate me ..!

Acer orbicam

What I would first recommend doing is reinstalling the driver for your camera. The driver is basically what allows your computer and web cam to connect to each other.

The Download: http://www.acer.com.sg/support/drivers.asp?product_type_=Acer+Notebook&product_name_=Acer+Aspire+5670+Series+&category_=Windows+XP+Drivers

After downloading that file , run it and install it...that should take care of your issue!

Acer orbi cam not working

** Note ** When the My Pictures or Pictures folder gets full, camera will not work - Cut and Paste all pictures in that
folder to another folder and restart Orbicam program.

If that does not work then do this:

Start - Programs - look for Acer Empowering Technology then Acer E-Recovery - The look at the bottom and you will
"Backup", "Burn disk" and Restore" choose Restore - choose Apps and Drivers at the bottom of Restore tab (it will say
extracting) - once extracted - click Install or Guides and Manuals if needing Orbicam instructions - click Vista or (XP) on the left - click Drivers - click Camera or CCD - on the
right side of the screen, then look for Bison driver or (or your model which can be found in device manager - control panel - system - device manager - Imaging devices) you have then click a phrase that has something like "Install now", follow on screen instructions. Then repeat steps above and instead of driver choose Bison (or your model which can be found in device manager - control panel - system - device manager - Imaging devices) Utility
