GE electric oven won't stay hot

Oven usually builds up to temperature set, when reached, oven starts to cool and can drop to 70-100 degrees lower than setting. We discovered the problem when oven wasn't performing and we reset the bake sequence. This restarts the tempreature build, but whenb again reached, oven starts to cool.

SOURCE: GE JKP26G Electric Oven Doesn't Maintain Temperature

Diagnosis= failed thermister (temp probe inside the oven cavity) The part number is WB23X5340 and it lists for ~$72.00 at your local appliance parts place.

Bad news is that you have to pull the oven out of the wall to do this repair.

Good news is that it's not difficult to do.

TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE BREAKER BEFORE YOU PROCEED! Otherwise you'd look like this...
bcdb604.jpg

Ready? OK!

All you need is;
1.) Phillips screwdriver
2.) 1/4" socket/nutdriver
3.) Ratchet if you don't have a nut driver
4.) 36 quart Igloo ice cooler (like what you'd take to the lake or the beach)
5.) Sturdy wire (smaller than a coat hanger, preferably)
6.) Flashlight

Did I mention TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE BREAKER BOX?

Now we're ready for surgery.

Open the oven door and look where the oven meets the wood. You'll see a couple of screws there... remove them. Now the oven is ready to pull.
Place your Igloo cooler under the oven. Slowly pull the oven from the cavity until you have it out and sitting on the cooler. (don't sweat it... the oven is light. maybe 75 pounds or so.)

Now that you have it out, open the oven door and remove the oven racks. Look inside (may need a flashlight) and locate the temp probe, there are 2 screws holding it in place. Remove those 2 screws and set them inside the oven cavity, you'll need them soon.

Now go to the back of the oven (slide it if necessary) and remove the back panel. (*Here's a tip... some of these GE units? All you have to do is remove one screw to access the temp probe, so look carefully... don't go nuts here. Sometimes the whole panel/panels DON'T have to come off)

You'll see the temp probe wires... they are 2 small white thermally insulated wires coming from the cavity to the wire harness in the back. Disconnect this harness and pull the old probe out from the front of the oven cavity.

OK... now to get the new probe installed... See that plastic thing on the end of the new probe? It's a pain to get through the cavity where you'll be plugging it into. It's best to have help. but it can be done alone (I've never had help, it's just harder)

Take the sturdy wire (from the tools list) and make a small hook at the end of it. Poke it through the hole that the old probe was stuck through. Now hook your new probe into the hook. Now go to the rear of the oven and gently (did I say gently?) pull it through to the back of the oven.

Now that you have it through, connect it to the harness. Now all you have to do is reinstall the rear panel/s and the oven. No biggy. Just take care not to scratch your wood trim... line it up before lifting and installing.

All in all about an hour's worth of work. I know it sounds like alot more but I could have done this in less time than it took me to type it.

Congrat's on your first major oven fix! Let us know how it turned out.

SOURCE: My oven burns everything.

Use a 'oven thermometer' in the oven and determine the 'actual temperature' in the oven. Your knob setting is off (not calibrated) and the oven is hotter than the control knob setting.

SOURCE: I need to calibrate an electric oven

Probably. There is often a key sequence that will enable a calibration mode. We need the full model number to find the tech info, or you can probably find it in the tech sheet which is normally taped on behind the control panel.

General Electric oven how to reset thermostat

First of all, most oven thermometers move very slowly compared to the electronic sensors and controls on the oven. To make sure you are getting an accurate reading, the thermometer should be in the center of the oven, the oven should be preheated, then wait another 20 minutes after the preheat beep. If the temperature is less than 35 degrees higher or lower at this point, it can be adjusted via the controls. Usually on GE ovens you press and hold bake and broil at the same time until SF comes up in the display. Then press bake, then use the arrow keys to raise or lower the temperature setting. If the temperature is more than 35 degrees off, you may have a bad sensor, bad control board, or other problem.

How close should the temp control hold the temp

Generally the oven temperature will fluctuate as much as 30 degrees above or below the set temperature. The longer the oven is on, the less the temperature fluctuates. If you measure the highest and lowest temperatures readings with a thermometer after the oven has been preheated at least 20 minutes, you should come up with an average temperature somewhere within about 10 degrees of the set temperature. You can calibrate most ovens up to 35 degrees higher or lower if it is off. Any more than that requires replacing parts.

Ge oven jtp18 elements won't heat

The limit switch in a Ge oven usually works or is blown. I would look at the oven sensor located at the back of the oven. It should read approximately 1k ohm at room temperature.

Ge profile oven lock button won't go off

  • 1.Press the "Clear/Off" button on the control panel to reset the oven. This will clear the lock setting and unlock the door.

2.Allow the oven to cool to room temperature to avoid turning the lock on again during this heating cycle.

3.Reset the oven to the temperature you require to finish cooking by pressing the correct temperature control on the control pad.

    or

  • 1.If your GE Profile microwave won't turn on, unplug it, then plug it back in. A power outage may have occurred due to a power surge. Check your home's fuses and circuit breakers.

2.Set the clock of your GE Profile microwave. Certain models will not operate until you set the clock. Select the "Clock" key and type in the correct time.

  • 3.Hold down your microwave's "Off" button. You may have accidentally hit the control-lock feature on your GE Profile microwave. Hold down the "Off" button for three seconds to turn the lock off.

  • 4.If the sensors of your GE Profile microwave are not working correctly, remove the food from the machine. If the sensors detect food-surface temperatures over 200 degrees Fahrenheit, it will not work properly until the area cools down.

  • 5.Contact GE Support if you are unable to resolve the issue on your own. Call the GE Support hotline or browse the help library on the GE website. You can also schedule a service visit on GE's website.

    Hello,
It sounds as if an element in the oven is not working do check again that the oven thermometer is on same scale as the oven settings farenheit or centigrade. Most likely it is an element fault.
