You can also count the large chainring gears at the front, count the number of gear sprokets on the back, and multiply them, eg 3x8 =24 gears. However, some of these gear ratios will be so close as to be the same! It doesn't mean that you have 24 DIFFERENT gears !
If you have 3 gear
bicycle then you'll see only one shifter and it has 1-2-3 labels on it. If you
have 10 or more gears then you will see 2 shifters on your bike. The left
shifter will usually show a lower number than the right one and multiplying the
numbers on the 2 shifters will give you the number of gears you have. For
example: If your left gear shows 1-2-3 and your right one shows 1-2-3-4-5-6,
then you have 18 gear bicycles.
