Kenmore progressive canister vac

I have a kenmore canister vac model # 116.25512504. One day while using it the vac began to shut off. Then finally it stopped working. We replaced the switch in the handle, but it still isn't working. I checked the fuse in the machine and bypassed it, but it still won't turn on. Any other suggestions???
Thanks,
Jodi

I have the same problem. In the middle of vacuuming, the suction engine suddenly stops.

May have a problem with the motor protector or the motor itself. The motor thermo protector will shut the motor off if it senses it getting hot. So it could be bad.

I tried what reddevil6 suggested and was not able to get Sears to produce a manual. I would prefer an online manual but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

You can go to the Sears Parts Direct website and type in your Model number. It will return both an exploded view and parts list, with pricing for replacement parts. You can also order from them, and they can tell you stock status as well.

hello... you might want to try checking the elbow or neck of the power nozzle for blockage. Remove the wand from the head and look through it. Also look through the wands . If there is no blockage, maybe there is a problem with you nozzle. Reattach all the parts and turn on the machine, turn on the power nozzle. Can you hear the other motor start? If so, check to see if the belt is turning. If it is not, and you definitely hear the secondary motor, then you need a belt. If it doesn't make any sound then, with the machine still running, press the button on the upper part of the power nozzle, this should reset your motor. I hope these tips helped ya, let me know, by giving feedback when asked. thank you, Rene (The Vacuum Doctor)

My husband accidentally dislodged the belt on my kenmore canister vac. how can we disassemble the head to put the belt back on?

There should be 4-5 screws on the bottom of the brush assembly, remove them and you will see the brush and belt, remove each end of the brush assembly they should lift up and out of the housing, and either replace or reailine the belt on the motor side of the housing.

Started to work intermittently, then just stopped

Is the controls to this machine in the hose. If so, then the hose is going bad. That is pretty typical for these models,

Go to sears.com, click on the parts link, enter your complete model number, then you can click on the links for your vac and you can figure out what it takes, and you can order thru there also.
