Slow oparet, restart & hanging

May be due to virus. or all the files you closes will be placed in temporary folder. It causes slow to operate, restart and hanging. click Start>Run>%temp%>OK. it displays no. of files in temporary folder. Then Ctrl+A, (Select all) > Shift+Del. It deletes all the files in temp. folder. Sometimes all cannot be deleted. You can delete one by one. On completion, restart PC. Try it.

More than likely your fan needs to be replaced. These small form factor Dells are know for problems like this. Warning! Do NOT attempt to blow out the CPU fan with canned air, as this will likely lodge dust particles in the axis of the fan causing it to drag and become louder!

Slow performance - Frequent Hanging of system

Do you run the Aero them with the glass windows effects etc. and have the windows sidebar running? I have found that this tends to slow down my computer a lot.

To turn off Aero:
  1. Right click on an empty area of the desktop
  2. click personalize
  3. click window colour and appearance
  4. select colour scheme:"windows vista basic"
  5. click ok
To turn off sidebar:
  1. go to start-> control panel
  2. Click windows sidebar
  3. deselect "start sidebar when windows starts"
  4. click ok
  5. on the task bar right click the windows sidebar icon
  6. click close

My pc hanged

Check to see what your antivirus settings are set for. With Norton's new "Systemworks" my system got so slow, I almost reformatted the system thinking I had an issue. It was all the "cr*p" that Norton put with it that slowed my system down. I got rid of it and bought McAfee's. Works 1000% BETTER!!!!! I just wanted an antivirus, and through in a good firewall to boot. That was 3 months ago and I'm STILL amazed how FAST my system is now!!! Coug
