I need to replace the cmos battery on my acer aspire 5630,

I took off the back panels carefully but could not find where it should go. I am also worried about loosing my settings. What do you suggest? Thanks!

    Hi.

Can you please clarify which motherboard is in the question?

You do not need to worry about the settings other than BIOS settings which are easy to set-up (if needed).

Where is cmos battery in acer 5600

Disconnect the power cord from the laptop and remove the main battery.
Open the laptop computer's screen and extend it as far back as it will go. Be careful not to stress the screen and cause any damage, but press it hard if needed.
  1. Press a flat head screwdriver under the front of the plastic bar lining the back of the laptop's keyboard. Pry the bar up slightly and hold it with one hand.

  2. Pry up the other side of the bar with the flat head screwdriver and fully pull out the bar. Keep its ribbon cord connected and set the bar on the laptop's screen.

  3. Remove the two Phillips screws securing the computer's keyboard. Slide the keyboard up and out to remove it. Again, do not remove its ribbon cord, and set the keyboard over the laptop's touch pad.

  4. Remove the four screws securing the cover plate over the motherboard and remove the plate as well.

  5. Locate the CMOS battery at the bottom-right corner of the motherboard.

Acer Aspire 5630 - CMOS Jumper J3, Where is it?

Remove all ram memory modules.

The J3 Clear CMOS Jumper is in the middle of the ram memory compartment.

This is a link to a free Service Manual for the Aspire 5630 series of Notebook PC,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go down to the second 'paragraph' that begins with Satellite 1200.
Go down to the 8th line in this paragraph. (Begins with 5538)
Go across, and left-click on 5630.

This is a PDF file.
It may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.
It may also take additional time to download.

Using the PDF file page number box, go to Page 12, or Page 100.
Both pages are an illustration of the Bottom of the motherboard.
J3 is to the right/middle. (Under the ram memory. DIMM 1 and DIMM 2)

Forget recovery password

You need to remove the cover over the fan assembly, and look over to the side toward the hard drive, and you should see the cmos battery, you don't need to take the machine apart, just reach in with a small screwdriver and keep the battery disconnected for five or so minutes, then after you put the cover back on, the password will be gone
