Good Evening, We have a hitachi large screen tv. It isn't a new one, approximately a 1998 model. We had been experiencing the problem of it shutting down. When we would turn it back on, everything would be alright until the next time it decided to shut down. I had gotten on a website where the information was given to me that it sounded like a resistor #51 needed to be replaced. Could this be correct? Please let us know.

The 51F510 has been out since around 2005, like tech 1819 said there are issues with cold solder joints on these, also touch up the connections on the large heatsink grounds (I run jumper wires), the vertical IC, and various other large connections that may have small ring cracks around component legs.

Most likely you have cold solder joints on t401 the horizontal drive tranformer. Also check that little blue capacitor in front of the horizontal output transistor.

You're verical output IC is dead, this might because of a leaky capacitor on that section which causes the lines across the screen.
The processor shuts down the unit automatically to avoid further damage to your tube.

Send it to repair shop to isolate the problem. This is fixable.

Hi I am Vortash
There may be actually nothing wrong with your set ? .......
This set has an anti surge protection circuit and it is designed to shut down should the incoming power peak above 240 volts or more , is this happenig at random times or around the same time in the evening or day it may be that this safety device is protecting the set .. sometimes local area transformers peak at the time of most consumer requirements this may just coincide to when you sit down to watch tv .. however if it has a habit of doing it at different times during the day .. then this safety circuit may be at fault and require an engineer to service the tv and check for poor components that have changed value .. It explains this is in the manual if you do not have one for your set you can download one for free from http://www.safemanuals.com hope this is of help regards Vortash

Too large of screen on hitachi rear projection tv

Some models had a 'zoom' feature on the remote, don't know why only some channels would show and others not. Try unplugging it overnight, maybe it will reset.
