I had the same problem. I also had an all in one virus protection- optimize, fix product -- symantec installed. I had to uninstall it and turn off any firewalls and it installed immediately and worked perfectly but as soon as I put it back on it would not or identify the product. There are some problems in this software that keeps this from working properly.

I've gone through the manual and put every file where it was supposed to go to work with these products and it doesn't work.

I can't figure out how to connect my computer with my printer through wireless. The printer says its connected to the same network as my computer but I can't figure out how to find it on available...

For installing a wireless printer on Windows XP, wireless router is an essential device.

Follow the recommended steps mentioned on the installation CD of the router, and set-up a wireless network.

Since several computers or laptops will access the printer, it0 1is recommended to connect the wireless printer to the main computer through the USB port.

To begin the installation process on Windows XP, access the network setting in the Control Panel, and activate the file and printer sharing option in the LAN setting.

This will allow the operating system to recognize the availability of a wireless printer.

Now, click the Start button, go to Devices and Printers, select Add a Printer option.

Click the second option- Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

The computer will search for available printer and reflect it on the screen.

Click Finish; and the printer is ready to begin the printing process.

Hello, I have a brother MFC-490CW mult-function printer (wireless) and I am having trouble setting up the wireless feature so my laptop can print to it via through my home network (Linksys wireless...

You have to make sure the following are used on your wireless settings on your router -

Wireless Network Security SSID (32 chr), WEP 64/128bit, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)

This means your SSID is less than 32 chars and your running either WEP, WPA. Or WPA2

Then on your printer make sure you have the wireless enabled and Just a good rule of thumb - When putting in a wireless printer just fudge with the wirless/TCP/IP settings on the printer until you can ping the printer from the PC. Do NOT bother running the software installs until you know you have a good ping from the printer as it will just bomb out.

do rate the solution plz

Hpj4680 will not print after adding wep pw

Cant you use WPA2, wep is very weak and should never be used if you have the option to use WPA.
If you have used WPA2 security ( you choose the password )
and the printer is asking for a wep key ( the router generates a long key , you dont choose it).
That will be the reason you can't connect, if the printer cant be changed to WPA, you only have the option to log on to the router and change security to WEP, which i would not recommend

Use of HPJ4680 in a network with Mac & PC connected to router

Ok what you do is, install the printer as a LOCAL one on one of the PC's, Probably the XP, one, would be best. or perhaps the PC; actually "Connected" to the D-link router & Modem, then Now install this printer , as a LOCAL, printer, and set as DEFAULT, enable Printer Sharing. Now, ALL PC's MUST, have a Name, Belong to the same Workgroup, have a Password. On the "Other" PC's Install the Printer as a Network Printer, browse for it and connect. Print a test page from each. Remember the PC with the printer attached, must obviously be ON or the "Others" cannot connect and print.. Make sure all network permissions are set sharing is set, especially on the Win 7. Just make sure they can all "See" each other first, before try all this.. the network MUST be intact and communicatable from each PC to at least the PC with the printer attached. How do I connect a brother HL-5370DW printer with a Linksys WRT54G V8 router? The Brother manual and website says I must record my current wireless network settings for the following: Communication...

This means your SSID, or the name of your wireless connection, the encryption method whether it be WEP or WPA or WPA2 and the Pre Shared Key, these won't be in your manual, but you would have set them up when you intially setup the wireless router.

What is a ssid and a wep key. I am dumb.

Hi,
SSID is the wireless networks name you want to access.

WEP is a special hexadecimal key to secure your network means if you want to connect a wireless network you will have to put this key.
It will be provided by the admin
