4 MB Data Traveler freezes my computer

I plugged my new Kingston 4 MB Data Traveler into my computer this morning in order to download a large file. My mouse froze, and I couldn't click anything or use the keyboard for anything. Booting my computer did not work. I had to disconnect my computer from the power source for a few minutes, turn everything back on and restart etc in order for my to use my computer again. I am able to use other jump drives in my computer without any problem. Why won't the Kingston jump drive work in my computer?

Does not work. Kingston are the worst flash drives. That's why they are so cheap. throw that one a way and never buy a kingston again.

Hi lassiebee,

Try the USB drive in other USB ports on the computer. Are you using a USB mouse and USB keyboard?

How to get my data back from Kingston Data Traveler 2.0? it asks me to format.

People often feel panic when I see this. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My take is that you may have to format the drive and then use recovery software to recover your files.

Here's some information about file recovery, think you need to take a look, very useful

Are you positive there isn't a flash drive stuck in a USB port somewhere else on the computer? Very peculiar for the computer to be recognizing a completely different device.

I have bought a Kingston 8 GB data traveler 100 and have no idea how to use it. Where can I find instructions? My searches are rendering me everything but how to use it. Regards, Larry Johnson

just plug it in to usb and let the computer install the drivers(it does this automatically) after a minute, it will let you know that the device is ready to use. if you want documentation...it should have come with it, if not ...here is the link for it. it is in .pdf format. use adobe reader to open file. >>>> http://www.kingston.com/Flash_Memory_Guide
you can also format it to NTFS if you intend to move large files with it as FAT32 systems only allow upto 4GB and no more....i do hope this has helped.

Kingston DataTraveler Card Reader Problem

I have one also here just like that always write protected, you know what is the problem of that is your card reader, its a USB connection input to your computer, all you have to do buy a new one Card Reader, I'm sure it will not work anymore unless you try to repair that Card Reader to a Technician. Always pop-up write protected but when I twist my USB Wire sometimes it work, sometimes not. Don't let plug it again because this time your USB connection in CPU will be damage. Supposed to be only Card Reader is the and maybe your USB Connections too will damage.
Hope this idea will help you.

I have a kingston 2gb and i dont know how to get my pics on it

Hi shenicamangr,

From inside My Computer, open the DT then from the menus at the top click on File, New and Folder. Type a name for the folder. Now go an find the picture files you want to copy. Right click on a file to copy (or press Ctrl-A to highlight all files) then select Copy from the menu. Go back to the DT and open it. Right-Click on the new folder you created and select Paste from the menu. All of the files should now be in the new folder.

For more information on how to use the DT go here: http://www.kingston.com/support/howtodt/default.asp
