4 MB Data Traveler freezes my computer

I plugged my new Kingston 4 MB Data Traveler into my computer this morning in order to download a large file. My mouse froze, and I couldn't click anything or use the keyboard for anything. Booting my computer did not work. I had to disconnect my computer from the power source for a few minutes, turn everything back on and restart etc in order for my to use my computer again. I am able to use other jump drives in my computer without any problem. Why won't the Kingston jump drive work in my computer?

Does not work. Kingston are the worst flash drives. That's why they are so cheap. throw that one a way and never buy a kingston again.

Hi lassiebee,

Try the USB drive in other USB ports on the computer. Are you using a USB mouse and USB keyboard?

My usb shows only 1.96 mb while its orignal space is 4 gb

remember that a memory device needs space in which to operate
so a 4gb stick will have less than the 4gb storage
It is very possible that there is some memory being used that results in the 1.96 remaining
one possible solution is to read the stick and see if there is any files or folders than are required and then reformat it to get back to full memory

I recently bought my new kingston data traveler (usb) 2gb then i tried to put a few files when i tried to insert it again it was 8 mb only and cannot be fomatted.

Try it in some other computer. If it still has a problem, take it back to where you bought it, and exercise the warranty to get it replaced.

Good day, i am using a data traveler 200 64 gb and file table currently raw and unable to format or convert the file system

Hello moolmijl

May i know what Operating System are you using? Like: WindowsXP, Windows 7, Vista.
If its windows operating system, then follow this steps:

1) Insert your Data Traveler
2) Go to your My Computer
3) Look for your Data Traveler from that window
4) Right Click your Data Traveler
5) Look for FORMAT thingy in that dropdown
6) Click Format
7) Choose the File System into Fat32
8) Check the Quick Format

Then wait for it. Then Your Good to go.

Update me about it.

Cheers

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive these WEB sites may help: -

Computer freezes with 4 mb Data Traveler

No idea what went wrong here, but when using a new USB drive (stick) first format it on the computer where you want to use it on. The best way to put there a file, is to download to your HD. When the download is ready copy the file to the external drive.
